“Worth a visit”

Wasn't sure what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Lots of items to handle and try on. Paraffin and gas lamps are used throughout giving the place an authentic smell. Good value for money.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2014 via mobile

As another reviewer said - "a hidden gem". Truly hands on, you are encouraged to sit in the chairs, pick up the plates etc and really immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the life above and below stairs. Probably the most unrated experience in the whole area and not to be missed.

“"Hidden Gem"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2014

This attraction has just won best "hidden gem" in Hudson's Heritage Awards 2014, well deserved. A family friendly attraction, lovingly restored and maintained. It has a genuine feel and smell of the past, helped by paraffin lamp lighting "upstairs" while "downstairs" the kitchens and servants quarters are served by open flame gas lights -- a first for me. An exceptionally good audio guide makes you feel like a guest being shown round the lodgings. I am not a fan of audio guides but must admit that this one with its characterisations is an exception, helped by Robert Hardy's mellifluous tones.

“Gem of a museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2014

A well kept piece of history, loved the audio presentation. The house has a lovely feel to it, you are transported back in time. The courtroom has so much atmosphere with the audio presentation, dressing up clothes and masks.

“Just Married”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

My partner and I decided to get married at the Judges Lodgind which is licenced to carry out marriages. We elected to use the dinning room for the ceremony which the staff arranged as we liked and lit a roaring log fire in the fire place for us. During the ceremony a staff member stood outside to prevent the public entering. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Although we did not go through the rest of the museum on the day we had been there twice before and found it to be very interesting and `hands on`. Well worth a visit
