“Relaxed and friendly break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

Arrived at the hotel and we were sorted out with our room which was a chalet outside the hotel with a nice room and jacuzzi bath. The hotel has a lot of history with dating back to 1616. There is a lot of character in the main building which in itself has changed over the years. It is well maintained, though there is a definitive aged appearance.

On the first night, we had a meal at the hotel, which was excellent - The starter was fish cakes, which was perhaps overly ample yet tasty portions and prawns with meat. Both were very appetising, and the main course was a exceptionally tasty medium rare steak and a nice homemade 8oz bacon cheese burger which stuffed and satisfied us both.

The hotel itself was aesthetically pleasing and the staff were friendly. We spent the first night at the hotel and the second night went to the village and sampled the three local pubs which were all fine. The hotel itself was the highlight with a good selection of drinks and a lovely family friendly beer garden with a kids play area (trampoline/climbing/swings/slides) along with a pool table in a games room.

All in all, a quality stay.

Room Tip: Rooms were a choice of in the hotel main building itself which were more traditional and these can b...

Went to this pub when in Wales. Food was superb, didn't wait hours for it, value for money was excellent. Staff could not have been friendlier. Portion size was on the larger size. All had something different. Started came followed swiftly by main. Excellent place.

After a gruelling 47 mile bike ride, my husband and I were so happy when we saw the hotel and a young gentleman waiting outside to welcome us. He explained that there had been a little problem with the heating in the hotel bedrooms "but would one of our garden rooms be okay for you?" I assumed this was a bad thing but the room (although modern) was absolutely gorgeous. It was immaculate, spacious and there was an impressive jacuzzi bath, which I desperately needed after the bike ride. We ate there that night and had the tastiest meal either of us have had in a long while for a very reasonable price. What a wonderful hotel that I can't recommend highly enough.

Room Tip: If you want character choose a room within the hotel but if it's luxury you're after pick on...

We stayed in a cottage in Presteigne for a week in March and did several forest and ridge walks in the beautiful country side stradling the England & Wales border. What a lovely town Presteigne is. Our stay was made all the better when we tried the Radnorshire Arms for a drink and evening meal. We were made to feel really welcome by all the staff and the beer (Rev James) was fab. We visited and ate there three times including one meal with a group of friends in the oak panelled restaurant with a blazing log fire. The food portions were just about right but if you are feeling extra hungry then just add on an extra side portion of veg or salad and you won't be disappointed. Live music on the monday evening with local folk playing guitar and other instruments made for a really relaxing time. We will return and would definately consider staying for a few nights.

We celebrated my wife's Diamond wedding anniversary at the Radnorshire Arms and we received exceptional service. The hotel set aside a separate room for Sunday lunch. The room was warm which was crucial for a cold February day with a number of octogenarians in attendance! The manager was extremely helpful and catered at very short notice for changes in menu requirements. He even set aside a bedroom next to the room we were dining in to provide a convenient toilet. The bar and wait staff were extremely friendly and efficient and everyone contributed to a memorable day for everyone.

Called in on the way to bryn glas and the site of the battlefield brought into phil rickman latest novel about John Dee. Both are well worth encompassing! The food was pub lunch standard, perhaps a little more expensive than others in the locale but very welcome after a drive towards the border. Good standard fare was delivered and we ate with a roaring log fire across the room, very dark but very atmospheric as a consequence. Staff were very friendly trying to make our short stay of interest with a brief guide to the rooms of interest in this border town.

Stayed here for a weekend and found the rooms to be lovely with lots of history. Great staff (if a little overworked) Ideally situated for horseriding nearby. Very nice substantial food and a lovely touch of the history of the hotel available to read in the room. Would definately stay here again.
