“Memories of wonderful meals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

We are so sad that the restaurant has now closed. Our family had had many wonderful meals here over the years. Birthdays , Christmases and anniversaries have all been celebrated with
Stephen's superb cooking and Jackie's impeccable front of house. We have also stayed overnight in beautiful clean & comfortable rooms which they are still providing as they remaining as a B&B and long may it continue.
There one positive piece of news Stephen is the new chef at the Kerry Lamb in Kerry where ate last night. I can assure all his fans he has not lost his touch we had a super meal. Good luck both of you and thank you for wonderful gastronomic memories!

Thank-you so much for your lovely review. We are both very happy that you enjoyed your time at The Talkhouse.
As you have noted Stephen is now chef at The Kerry Lamb and I am sure that you will enjoy many happy times there, but if you ever require a comfy room for the evening with a full Welsh breakfast then we would look forward to welcoming you back to The Talkhouse.
Kind Regards
Jackie Garratt

“excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

Have always eaten at the talk house as they do excellent food. When my son visited from america we always took him to the talk house, and when ever he came over he always said book the talk house, it is sad they no longer do meals but have heard the chef now works at the maesmawr hall hotel. So if you want a good meal the maesmawr is the place to go.

Thank-you for your lovely comments, we are both glad that you enjoyed yout time at The Talkhouse. After 10 years of running the restaurant we decided to down scale slightly and now operate as a bed & breakfast . My husband Stephen (chef at The Talkhouse) has now taken over the kitchen at The Kerry Lamb and I am sure that you would enjoy a similar meal there.
Kind Regard

“A tinge of sadness”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

So sad that the Talkhouse has closed - it was always very friendly, with good beers and excellent food (I have seen first rate chefs dining here) and the atmosphere was always good: especially when Christmas Carols were being sung :-)
Wish you well!

PS the date of our visit is fictitious, as we quite often popped in for a little something

“You'll never be disappointed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

The Talkhouse serves up some of the best atmosphere and fine dining you could ask for in the area. The steaks are to die for and the menu always offers something new to tempt you to try something new.

“A little disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

We chose this restaurant because of the reviews, and were a little disappointed with the food. The menu was written on a chalk board on the wall, the restaurant was light and spacious and the staff extremely friendly. The reviewer below who says the portions are small, must either be an American or eat an awful lot, as we thought the portions were a good size. The four of us all had different starters and main courses. The starter I had was the bacon and mushroom gnocchi, which I think was spoilt because of too much cream. The other starters were very nice and enjoyed by the other members of my party. Unfortunately the main courses were disappointing, most of the lamb was gristly, the salmon risotto again was spoilt because the risotto had too much cream, in fact the rice was barely visible in the cream. The stuffed chicken breast was quite nice but again there seemed to be a lot of cream in the dauphinoise potatoes (I know the recipe contains milk, cream, cheese, but I think there was rather too much cream). The person who ordered the duck enjoyed it and said it was very nice, but this person agreed with me about the dauphinoise potatoes, ( this person who is now retired, has worked in a famous London restaurant). We had two dishes of vegetables which were more than enough for the four of us, and they were extremely enjoyable.
