“Fantastic food”
Reviewed July 25, 2010

Stayed here in July with colleagues as was working near-by. Owners are very friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic - after a long day working I looked forward to returning here to eat and sleep. Rooms were clean, ensuite, cozy and comfortable; as there is only a few we were allowed to pick amongst ourselves which ones we wanted - a nice touch. as others have said there is not a lot around this area but if you are looking for nice wine, fine food and a cozy night in I would pick here every time.

We didn't stay but we did eat.

Having been really badly let down on other nights, this was a delightful surprise.

Our hosts were lovely, the staff friendly and attentive and the food great.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

We'll be going back - even if it is 3hours away!

If you love good food, then this is the B & B for you! The restaurant is excellent, the wine list superb, and the atmosphere warm and relaxing. We stayed in Tybie, which is somewhat small and has the low doorways you would expect in a 17th century building. (Would not recommend that room for a very tall person.) We were so pleased to have discovered the place -- a real, hidden gem. A weekend to remember.

We stayed at the Talkhouse for 2 nights on a recent trip to Wales. I had read about the excellent food, which is why I made the reservation.

We were warmly welcomed by Jackie and given a choice of two available rooms. We chose "Tirion," which was small but comfortable, and very nicely laid out with a really nice bathroom.

We ate at the inn both nights of our stay--this was good partly because there are very limited options nearby--driving to Newtown is really the only choice--but moreso because the food is EXCELLENT. Really excellent food, very nice wines--as fine as some of the finest food in New York.

I would definitely recommend the Talkhouse and would stay there again, but there are drawbacks: it is really, really in the middle of nowhere. There is some walking nearby, but not much--driving to Brecon is the best option and that is a bit of a trip. The other drawback is that our room was on the front of the inn which is set right up against the road, and we heard car and train traffic starting very early in the morning.

Still, those things said, the food and the welcome are worth it.

I had wanted to stay here for some time - not a dissappointment at all! Comfortably furnished it felt like being at home. The room was small but fine and I slept very well. The food is excellent, well served and presented. I was very happy with every aspect.

Would I stay here again? Certainly and would urge others to do so.

We stayed at The Talkhouse for a weekend with some freinds. The place was exactly what we were looking for! Loctaion was great and nearby walks were lovely. The food in the restaurant was fantatsic cooked by the owner who is also a chef! Nice touch. The bar was really cosy and we relaxed after dinner supping on our drinks and chatting to the young owners - both lovely people.

The rooms were also really nicely done with nice bathrooms which is also important.

Overall you can tell the place is run passionatley by it's owners who have put a lot of thought in to nice touches like magazines in the bedrooms!

Would recommend highly.

We decided to vist Mid Wales and found the Talkhouse on the internet. I read some reviews on Tripadvisor and felt confident it would be a good place to stay.

We had a warm welcome and were shown to our room. The room was Myfawny, which is lovely. The bathroom is superb with a fantastic shower. I was slightly concerned the room was above the bar and it maybe a bit noisy, but it was fine. When it gets to about 11pm the music is switched off, and people are making their way home.

Tea was served in our room at our requested time of 7.30am.
Breakfast was lovely. Freshly cooked ingredients served with a friendly smile.

We ate in the restaurant one evening and have to say the food was amazing. The service was excellent to. Nothing was too much trouble.

The couple who own it have really done a fantastic job in creating a lovely welcoming Coaching Inn with fabulous food.

We will definately be returning!
