“Excellent night's sleep and private bathroom”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

If you want a B&B to have a really comfortable bed and a designer bathroom that allows for an unusual amount of privacy from the bedroom, then this is the place for you. It is without doubt the best B&B that we have ever stayed in.

The owners are both lovely and were very welcoming. They made us tea and coffee (with welsh cakes) on arrival which was very enjoyable. They offered to make us refreshments in the morning which we declined but we did take them up on their fantastic Welsh Breakfast which was the best! We understand that Stephen and Jackie had been restauranteurs for many years but had recently changed their business over to the B&B. That accounted for the high quality delicious breakfast. I was just sorry I didn't have my camera with me.

As this use to be a pub (17th Century by all accounts) there is plenty of space in the lounge and dining area for planning your trip or just relaxing.

We stayed in a room called 'Tirion' which had all the usual facilities except tea and coffee making equipment which didn't bother us. The room was warm and cosy. Sorry to harp on about the bed but it is better than our bed at home. The owners have obviously done their homework on this and got the best spec. mattress and a base that doesn't squeak or creak.

The lobby between the bedroom and the bathroom meant that the usual lack of toilet privacy did not occur. This is really refreshing. The 'Fired Earth' bathroom is very colourful and done to very high standard. The shower is great.

If the rest of the rooms are to the same standard then we are sure these people are on to a winner.

The location was perfect for us as we were driving the A470 recently promoted by Cerys Matthews on Radio 4 (The Welsh M1).

We can thoroughly recommend The Talkhouse as a place to stay.

We stayed here this weekend with 2 friends. We choose Tybie and Myfanwy. Both rooms were lovely. Beds were comfortable and clean, the en suite bathrooms the same. The rooms are at the front of the building so a little traffic noise can be heard but didnt disturb us too much. The welcome from the owners was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The food was plentiful and excellent on both nights. The breakfast was also of the same standard (one of the best ive had). Although literally in the middle of nowhere this didnt matter. We had the most relaxing of times and would definately love to return.

The service was absolutely first class, nothing was too much trouble. The food was also magnificent (the best scallops my wife has EVER had) including the full english (welsh?) breakfast.

The accommodation was OK, good bathroom, but the room was very creaky and directly above the bar, so quite noisy.

All in all, thoroughly recommended.

Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly hosts Steve and Jackie, starting with a welcoming tea tray. My en-suite room [Tybie] was cosy, spotless and equipped with television, magazines, hair dryer, bathrobe, ample towels and bathroom 'goodies'. There were plenty of brochures area offering a variety of ideas for days out, for which the perfect start would be the Talkhouse full breakfast. Local friends joined us for Sunday evening and shared our praise for the deliciously cooked and well presented dishes. Steve does all the cooking but is so well organised that everything comes promptly to the table. Jackie makes the bar and reception area welcoming and we had some interesting chats with her and with Steve, while the waiter is friendly and professional professional. A wonderful setting for the building is the beautiful and well maintainced garden.

Not sure why the previous reviewer praised the Talkhouse then gave it one star for everything ??? Surely a mistake ???

Booked the Talkhouse for 2nights after reading the great reviews on tripadvisor so was fairly confident that it was going to be good. First impressions were very good and the AA 5 star plaque on the doorway clearly showed that this place meant business. Were given a nice friendly welcome by the lady owner and given a choice of room much like some of the other people the have commented on here. All 3 rooms looked good though and attention to detail was evident.
Dinner was, as expected, both plentiful and with an interesting menu. My wife and I both had different starters and mains and the freshness and quality was just there where it should be. Menu choice was good, potion size was excellent and the service impeccable. I could not fault a single thing about the Talkhouse.
Breakfast the next day was just as good.
The second evening we made sure we chose something different again and it was just as good. This place is definitly about the food but with lovely clean and quite unique accomodation.
If I could give it 6 out of 5 I would.

Stayed here in July with colleagues as was working near-by. Owners are very friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic - after a long day working I looked forward to returning here to eat and sleep. Rooms were clean, ensuite, cozy and comfortable; as there is only a few we were allowed to pick amongst ourselves which ones we wanted - a nice touch. as others have said there is not a lot around this area but if you are looking for nice wine, fine food and a cozy night in I would pick here every time.

We didn't stay but we did eat.

Having been really badly let down on other nights, this was a delightful surprise.

Our hosts were lovely, the staff friendly and attentive and the food great.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

We'll be going back - even if it is 3hours away!
