“Excellent dining in mid Wales!”

Lovely food - not massive portions, but well-judged. Full of flavour and fun. Excellent service. As vegetarians we felt well catered for. I highlight in this lovely market town on the borders of Snowdonia.

“We love this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

We've celebrated two special occasions here this year and each time have found it to be excellent, more than fulfilling our expectations. Although I suppose it is a fairly small space the simple and appealing décor gives it a light, spacious and uplifting feel, especially when the door is open on a warm evening - so we found the negative comments about its size on this page difficult to comprehend. The toilet in its sweet little courtyard is also worth a visit and a pleasant experience in itself! I'm vegetarian and appreciate that there is always a choice of two enticing main course dishes (as well as starters) and meat and fish eating friends have commented on the high quality of their dishes. I'm not sure what the reviewer below means by 'high end food' but to us, the food is delicious, healthy, often local, cooked well, not over rich and fussy and presented imaginatively and attractively...and what is more is very reasonably priced, which makes it accessible to many people who want a special meal out even if their budgets are limited. The staff are very friendly and helpful too - one of them even offered to take a picture of our group standing outside the restaurant which meant her standing in the road! Such gestures go a long way to make an occasion memorable and above the ordinary. It's also a great place to go for coffee/tea and homemade cake during the day by the way. We can't wait to go again.

“Amazing taste!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

I visited no. 21 recently having set out for simpler bar food, but seeing a table free we thought we'd take the opportunity as we were happy to see an additional venue in the town.
Nice and simple decor, short and concise menu: and the food was brilliant; So many tastes on one plate; congratulations to the chef!
I enjoyed eating here very much, only point i'd improve is the drinks choice & cost; it seemed to be priced high for average, whereas the food is priced well for excellent!

“Great food and great service. A must visit restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

It is a modern restaurant, all nice clean lines, fresh decor and unfussy furniture. Candle in a can (it works) and roses lining up over the fireplace, a nice touch. There is previous criticism about it being narrow, and it is, but on the night we visited we were sat across from a table of 8 and didn't feel in the least overcrowded.
The well thought out menu is not large but there are options for everyone, steak lovers, fish lovers and vegetarians. Our belly pork starter was delicious and the main course of lamb with cabbage and garlic mash was fabulous. Hubby had Eton Mess for pudding which he said was lovely and I had some great Welsh cheeses.
The wine list is again not large but again covers all tastes and the prices are very reasonable. Just like the food.
The service was very friendly but not intrusive. As previously commented by other reviewers the place is run by a young couple, husband the chef and wife front of house. The food is great and the place is well worth a visit. We would definitely go back.

“A Little Piece of France, but it IS WELSH”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

Recommended by a friend as "the new place in Mach" we set out to find it.
From the outside, fresh, clean and inviting, and yes, that looks like like a 'real' coffee machine. We entered and sampled.
COFFEE EXCELLENT....so,
after a friendly chat with the staff on duty, and a look at the menu, we booked for the evening.
We were not disappointed. In fact, wow!
Clean fresh (french bistro style) decor, real napkins (no cheap tissue here) and a welcoming candle, ready lit, without the oft fumbling for a match.
The meal was a blur of excellence, whitebait, very fresh, and bruscetta, followed by seabass on basil pomme puree and Welsh Lamb cooked two ways on a bed of savoy cabbage with wild garlic mash.
After a very reasonably priced Pinot Grigio, my wife had her usual standard creme brulee, and declared that it equaled anything she had had in France.
This young couple, he with his skills in the kitchen, and her with her flair for original presentation deserve to succeed.
GIVE THEM A TRY.
In answer to "Marsupites" yes it is long and narrow, but in our experience on the mainland, it is often the best that are hidden behind a narrow frontage
