“Fabulous overnight stay for special occasion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014

For my partners 30th I wanted to book up a weekend away and came across lake vyrnwy on a living social deal. We stayed on 12th July.
An absolutely stunning location looking over the lake. The room was large and the bathroom great which had a separate bath and shower cubicle. We went for a garden view which was nice as the dining room, bar etc has lovely views and we didn't think it was worth spending the money on an upgrade. The deal included a glass of proseco each with truffles which the bar staff happily changed to soft drinks for us. The 5 course meal was superb and my partner relaxed when he saw they did posh steak and chips! The breakfast was great and we got a seat overlooking the lake. If anything there was just too much choice! Between us we had a full welsh breakfast, boiled eggs and soldiers, croissant, toast, fruit and yoghurt. The choice was every impressive.
We also booked the clay pigeon shooting which is worth doing and lots of fun and my partner had a face/head/back massage which he thoroughly enjoyed.
The staff here are lovely and left a small gift and note for us in the room on arrival to celebrate the birthdays.
We will definitely return.

Arrived rather early and rooms were not quite ready so feeling hungry decided to have a light lunch in the Tower Tavern next to the hotel. I cannot understand why one reviewer has said you can't eat anywhere else unless you travel 40 mins when there is a pub serving reasonably priced food attached to the hotel. It even has a balcony to sit on outside to enjoy the view.

We had a lighter choice/starter of pancake stuffed with mushroom & leeks in a mustardy sauce topped with bacon lardons. Other options included sanwiches & wraps, pub food classics and grills.

Once the rooms were ready at about 2:30pm we unpacked.

I had a single room which was a little small, but had everything that was needed. Quality teas, filter coffee and hot chocolates are provided as well as bathroom products.

Parent had large double room (very large!!) which also had a bath as well as shower.

We had the standard prix fixe menu which had plenty if choice ranging from fish to duck and fillet steak. With a view by the window adding to the dining experience.

It is worth noting that the hotel bar only has draught bitter, however the pub next door offers a good range of draught lagers, cider & guinness as well as bitter.

Prices in the pub are also cheaper, but I suppose you pay a little extra for the hotel lounge ambience and incredibly comfy chairs. As the weather was beautiful with an amazing red sky reflexting on the still lake water we sat outside.

Staff at Lake Vyrnwy are all very friendly & welcoming with lots of smiles, you imagine it is a happy place to work which adds to the guests enjoyment.

Breakfast after a good night sleep offers some chioce including Kippers, boiled egg with soldiers. Most people though seemed to plumb for the full welsh.

The hotel offers free wifi, so whilst there isn't any mobile reception you can still surf the net and use skype or BT softphone.

Having posted some photos on facebook I returned home to a message from friends that they had booked in that night, that view really is addictive!

Unfortunately my mother was ill so wasn't able to join us, we will now have to return at a later date with her ;-) The staff provided us with a pudding to take to her which was a nice thoughtful touch!

This is an old hotel with lots of character, unlike the modern sanitised chain hotels you get today. It seems that every room is individual. The staff work very hard to accommodate their guests.

Most reviews on here are complimentary, but a few are not, some are downright harsh! This really just shows that we are indeed human, and you can't always please all of the people.

The hotel was recommended to me, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: If you stay for more than one night then have a meal in the restaurant and a meal in the Tower Taver...

We stayed at Lake Vyrnwy on the 13th and 14th July, taking advantage of a two night deal. The journey to the hotel was interesting as we had not realised how narrow some of the roads can be, but you are rewarded with the most spectacular countryside and amazing views of Lake Vyrnwy from the hotel. It would be fair to say that the hotel is a little faded, however, our room was very comfortable and equipped with all we required. A well stocked and unusual tea and coffee box was replenished in the morning and the evening - a nice touch. Bottled water in the room, also replenished each day.
Delicious food in the main restaurant at dinner and at breakfast. The restaurant has a rosette, we thought it could easily have had two, and that is comparing it to some stiff competition as we eat at more than one Michelin starred establishment on a regular basis.
Really swish spa which was reasonably priced for what was on offer. A great way to spend a few hours, sitting in the spa gazing at the lake.
What really charmed us about this hotel were the staff. Without exception charming, endlessly helpful, genuine Welsh hospitality at its best! Special mention to the lady taking orders and serving in the restaurant ( she was there at dinner and breakfast both days, but did say she had time to go home, goodness knows how ) and also a lovely chambermaid who gave us a tour of several bedrooms when we asked her a question about the different types of rooms. Ours was facing the garden at the back, so no lake view, but fair enough as we were on the special deal. Maybe next time we would pay the extra for the view.
Certainly not designer chic, but comfortable, welcoming, relaxing and very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have superb lake views. Those at the rear overlook the gardens and there is a lit...

Lovely views over Lake Vyrnwy on nice clear days from the window tables in the restaurant and lounge.
There may even be an aeriel dislay from the RAF as fast jets fly over!
Food was enjoyable and included a high proportion of excellent local produce beautifully cooked and presented.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

Four of us stayed in the hotel 1 - 4 July and on July 2 we were seated at the table next to Kimmykins00' party. We were treated to a 30 minute diatribe of complaints to the staff about the seating arrangements that are described at length in the review. I can understand the disappointment at not being given a window table, however it's clear that no guarantee of a window table was given. What is most disturbing was the manner in which the staff were addressed: rude, loud and ill-mannered is putting it politely. The staff responded calmly and professionally, and I felt sorry for them (and the other diners) that their evening was disrupted by such uncouth and offensive behaviour. I can't comment on what happened subsequently, but I have nothing but praise for the staff, and for the service we received. This was our third visit to the hotel, and we will return. I guess will will not have the same company for dinner!

Room Tip: Lake View rooms are worth the extra cost

Absolutely beautiful here, great destination for some proper relaxation and escapism.
Been to the hotel many times for business meetings and they do the best shortbread and tea!
Love this part of Wales, and really a treat to come here- the views are spectacular even in the winter. Definitely a must visit with its enchanting charms.
