“Simply stunning views”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

The views from the hotel balcony and the bedroom balconies are simply stunning, the view down the lake with the fairy-tale pump house tower is one that you just can't stop taking pictures of. The whole experience from the bubbly and truffles on arrival, the four poster bed rooms, the meal in the restaurant and the served breakfast the next day, the level of staff service, all leaves you wanting to go back again.
Outside the hotel there are plenty of places to visit and good walks, such as the dam itself and the waterfall at the other end of the lake, the RSPB hide is worth a visit, loads of birds feeding and bobbing round, just driving round the lake is a nice experience.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a lake view, it's a must do

We had a one night break last week. as always, the staff were very welcoming. Our room (15) was fantastic with 4 poster bed & jaccuzi bath. the 5 course evening meal was outstanding, as was the range of choices at breakfast. sitting in the lounge & looking down the Lake is truly wonderful - so peaceful. we will certainly return - many times!

Room Tip: Room 15 is so spacious. Lake view rooms are also worth the extra.

I begin by confirming all the well earned compliments on the site as perfectly true.
Not a wow factor, more of a wowee- powee factor. The breath-taking views are a given,a gift.
The hotels achievements however are a result of staff selection, training & development & looking outwards at the 'best in class' elsewhere. I provide a flavour here which are all compelling reasons for us to return;
Management knowing what constitutes excellence & quality spelt with a Q, not with a K.
Exquisite levels of genteel courtesy from staff at every level. Staff took responsibility for the quality of my experience as a customer/guest showing uncommon friendliness & charm.
Service/help from everyone was dignified, seamless, timely & very hospitable. Unusually so, it seemed that staff knew exactly how to ensure customers felt like treasured guests. Staff using a relaxed positive manner were highly motivated to give of their best in order to provide the best experience for it's guests & visitors.

The hotel is the diamond in the heart of thousands of acres of forest. Charm & character pervade the attractive building. Crackling log fires, comfy settles, leather couches, well worn chairs & huge cushions complete the picture, enticing bums on seats!
.
Our spacious, enticing bedroom [41] was amazing as was the bath/shower room. Wonderful bed linens superb towels, heated towel rail so the bathroom was always toasty. Comfy armchairs, huge cushions, fridge, bottled water & a most generous refreshment hub with tea/coffee pots.
Sun-trap furnished balcony & a gracious way of alerting house keeping staff to your needs.
Cuisine was exceptional, providing a feast for the eyes before the tummy. Restaurant was very busy over our 3 night stay, not all diners were guests, indicating that some folk had travelled a distance to dine there. Very reassuring indeed.

If you appreciate quality, high standards, sincere hospitality, character, charm, courtesy, tranquillity, a dignified & eager service - then the hotel will suit you.

What could be improved on well...I missed a swimming pool & a signal for my mobile phone. I, with other guests had to brave the elements, hanging over balconies to receive signals on hand-held devices. Also, I would have liked at least one free guest pass to sample the much promoted 'spa'. Personally, swimming lengths in a 25m pool would have been the icing on my anniversary cake. Visitors to the hotel should be charged the £10 fee to use spa facilities. However, I think charging guests of the hotel is inappropriate. Guests realise actual spa treatments do attract a charge. It appears the flat fee charge is there to prevent everyday use of the Spa, not to welcome guests into it.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the 40's room they have a sunny balcony

‘The hotel is the diamond in the heart of thousands of acres of forest’ – we like that a lot! Your kind review is very much appreciated, thank you for taking the time to write extensively about your recent stay. I am delighted that so much was to your liking and will take great pleasure in asking all of the staff here to take a moment to read your kind words.

I am sorry to hear that you found the spa facility a little lacking; guests are typically pleased with the set up that we have here – the space is usually tranquil, not over crowded allowing you take your journey through the thermal suite at your own pace. Just as a note we took the decision when the Spa opened now many years ago to charge for use of the thermal suite rather than add to the cost of the room, not to prevent everyday use of the spa, but to ensure that only those wanting to use the facilities are charged. Many of our guests, not all, find comfort in the tranquillity of Lake Vyrnwy Spa.

I do hope that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel, and soon.

Kind Regards
Anthony Rosser

My husband, sister and brother-in-law stayed the night of 27th February and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were especially helpful and friendly and the food excellent. Our Lake View room was wonderful and we can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: Lake View rooms are worth the extra cost

Booked via travel zoo, I didn't expect it to be so good. food fantastic, so lovely to be served rather than the buffet style we have all become so use to. Such a great team of staff, everyone from the receptionists, waiting and bar staff, even housekeeping were so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was large, very clean, huge bath and separate shower, I just hate showers in baths! Lovely white crisp sheets and the bed very comfortable. Our dog was so well behaved too! Such a cute touch. I want this hotel to be kept a secret, but thought I owed it to the management and team to say thank you and wish we had stayed longer...... Now considering booking for Christmas! Thought the spa was a little overpriced as we only had access to our room at 4pm, allowing just over one hour before having to return to our room to get ready for pre dinner drinks at 17.45hrs.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent Lake Vyrnwy break. I am so please that you enjoyed so much of your stay.

Quieter times of the year mean that late availability offers very much like the Travelzoo offer that brought you here become available for a short period of time – often Dinner, Bed & Breakfast, as well as a little extra treat are included to ensure that they are great value for our guests. This of course gives the savvy traveller the opportunity of some wonderful opportunities.

I hope that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back, and soon.

Kind Regards

Spent an overnight birthday treat here last week, and that is what it was - a treat!
The hotel had a wonderful ambience, it wrapped it's arms around you as soon as you walked in the door. The staff were excellent, quietly doing their job but ever ready to help. The restaurant was superb. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The fixtures and fittings were in keeping with the age of their surroundings. Flat-pack from Ikea would not fit in here. Throw into the pot the magnificent scenery and you have the perfect recipe. Try it!
