“What a lovely surprise!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

We had booked the hotel as we were working at the Lake for the day. We had only booked a garden view room as it was a quick overnight stay but was most surprised when given a superb room with a four poster bed and bathroom with a massive jacuzzi! I asked the very pleasant lady on the reception if this was an example of the other rooms and expressed my delight and she said that it used to be a premier room but as it wasnt overlooking the lake they now let it as a standard room! We ate in the restaurant in the evening which was delightful, overlooking the lake, fantastic view with the sunset too! There was a full three course dinner menu available with amuse bouche, sorbet and coffee added or a two course menu (would have been good to have something inbetween to offer although we probably would have gone for the full monty anyway!). There was a little hiccup with the wine we ordered not arriving then being told eventually on asking that it wasnt available but otherwise the meal and service was wonderful. I do not understand about a previous customer complaining about the portions as we are big eaters and there was quite sufficient. You do have to order side dishes with some of the meals but that is to be expected and nice to have a choice of your favourite vegs/potatoes. Breakfast was most enjoyable too and I liked the sausage as Im not keen on herby sausages. We shall be visiting again when we have more time to walk and take in the sights.

My wife and I decided, on impulse, to return to this hotel for a relaxing overnight. This might seem strange since it is only half an hour from where we live, but when you are there it could be anywhere special in the world.
This is very much a country house hotel, so don't look for bling, rather more for comfort and understated quality.
We stayed in one of the big rooms which is great, but all rooms are finished with grace.
We also used the thermal suite, part of the spa, which was gorgeous and peaceful since we were alone and had it all to ourselves!
The restaurant is good, not Michelin star, but fine well presented food. The staff are really helpful and attentive.
The whole package has a feeling of being wrapped up in a warm pre-war movie, but with all modern comforts, including broadband.
Business people refer to places like this having a USP, unique selling point. For The Lake Vyrnwy Hotel's look out of any window. The view of the lake and its fairy castle tower is trully World class!
As for a recommendation; just go!!

Room Tip: An upgrade to a lake view in one of the new rooms is worth the extra cost

We visited their last month, on a Vyrnwy break, and were certainly not disapointed in the hotel. Views were spectacular, food and service was excellant well worth the visit. The sorbets were extraordinarily good.

Room Tip: We had a lake view, which is well worth the extra. Hint, careful if you park under a tree...

We came to celebrate our ruby wedding; together with daughters, son in law, grandaughters and a dog. The hotel staff made us feel very welcome and we all had lovely old fashioned rooms in the original wing of the hotel. The lake views were truley magical, whether viewed from our bedroom window, bathroom, lounge, resturant or outside deck. Loved the large drawing room where our big group found plenty of space to lounge and chill out, read, catch up on e-mails or play the provided board games. All though there are TVs in all the bedrooms the public rooms are mercifully free of them. Outside in the stunning countryside around the hotel there were lots of different trails and hikes possible, without needing to take the cars out and then a wonderful 5 course meal to enjoy in the evening and a massive breakfast to set us up in the morning. We felt this was a very good value break and a quite memorable stay, for all the right reasons.

Room Tip: Book a lake view room, and take waterproofs and walking boots to make the most of your stay.

We were in countryside view room 12 and it was spacious, clean, tidy and had a super kingsize bed which was really comfortable! It had a large bath and a separate shower.
We had a really bad nights sleep due to a guests car alarm going off repeatedly until 3am, the staff did all they could to resolve the issue but we had to close the windows to try and help with the noise but it was then extremely warm, so going for a relaxing spa break with my mum for her 60th ended with us coming home feeling tired and exhausted!
The 5 course dinner was outstanding, lovely tasty food but I wish I'd ordered a side to go with my main as I was still a bit hungry ;)
The breakfast was lovely with a good cooked breakfast although I did miss beans/tomatoes/hash browns as an option on my full English.
It's a lovely hotel and the staff are very happy, friendly and always willing to help with a smile and I felt they actually did care that guests had a pleasant time, I was under the impression they enjoyed their jobs.
We sat outside during the day to take in the beautiful view and it really is something else, but we both felt the patio furniture let the setting down, some nice rattan furniture with cushions would be lovely also a lick of paint/varnish on the wood around the whole hotel would really bring it up to standard!

Room Tip: Room 12 Country view room was spacious with a 6 foot super kingsize bed (2 singles pushed together...

Having spent one night at Nanteos, near Aberystwyth, I think we expected to bit disappointed by this somewhat larger hotel and Spa which we expected to be like so many others in this ilk. But none of it! Our upgraded room, nay suite, was perfection, overlooking the lake. Our 5 course dinner was exceptional and maybe all the better as we had missed lunch and were kept waiting a bit to go into the restaurant. Breakfast was very good though with a little less choice and quantity than our previous hotel but mad up for by the excellent eggs and the home mad marmalade! For a hotel of this size, the character of the house has been maintained but the efficiency of the whole set up is quite amazing.

We were lucky to get a Travelzoo deal and had just 1 night at this hotel - from across the lake it looked a bit grey and grim but inside it is beautifully restored and furnished with a fantastic view from all the communal rooms. Our twin room was on the other side but was so pretty with a really nice large bathroom, white robes and plenty of space. We enjoyed prosecco and hand made truffles in the bar, a totally amazing 5 course dinner and a hearty Welsh breakfast. The spa facility overlooks the lake also and made for a very relaxing afternoon. This would be a perfect hotel for walkers and birdwatchers but we (mum and 18 year old son) just enjoyed a gourmet mini-break. Really lovely and certainly on the deal we had incredible value for money.

Room Tip: Don't expect your phone to work - take advantage and give yourself a break!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of the hotel. The weather certainly has a lot to answer for; even at this time of year it can be a little glum and will sometimes, very unfortunately give off that impression. I am delighted that when you arrived the hotel was to your liking and I am pleased to note beautifully furnished.

I am glad that you had such a relaxing break, and certainly hope that you will think of us when you are ready for another – we would love to welcome you back to the lake.

Kind Regards
