“The food and setting compensate for the room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed here last weekend, the setting is stunning and probably the quietest place i have ever been.
I was very undewhelmed by our room, i thought at first there was a fog decended but in fact we were right in front of the chimneys that disperse the heating steam, so the best view was from the bathroom which was nice, it would have been nicer if the bath was raised so you could lie there and enjoy the beautiful view. the carpet was worn, the room was clean and had plenty of tea coffee etc.... clean fluffy white towels and rather snug bathrobes.
The evening meal was a 5 course delight, couldnt fault it.
Breakfast very average, many people have commented on breakfast, i think after the beautiful meal the night before we were expecting better.
we had dinner in the bistro the night after and my partner had a steak and stilton pie, which was 1st class.
A nice relaxing stay i think we just had a duff room Number 7 just in case you get lumbered with it.
there was a beautiful room at the end with a 4 poster and lake views, wish we had had that.

Also there is little or no atmosphere in the bar area, you can literally hear a pin drop.

Stayed her for 1 night, with our dog, staff very helpful,& friendly, room lovely, had lunch in the tavern & dinner in the hotel, both really lovely. Didn't use the spa as has no swimming pool & thought £10 charge just to use sauna & jacuzzi a waste of money. Most spa hotels it's included. Overall fantastic location, great walking & tons to do, stopped at the lakeside cafe restaurant for a pot of tea & homemade cake, quite a step back in item but a lovely lady and great cake, well worth a visit if not just for the view.

We are 4 sisters (in law) away for a birthday break in this beautiful part of Wales. Everything about the hotel is special, gorgeous views, friendly helpful staff, wonderful food and the most spectacular setting. It started snowing during our first night and we awoke to a beautiful winter wonderland and after a particularly good breakfast ( lots of choice and beautifully cooked) we walked around the lake and stumbled on a little cafe, well worth a visit for the views and the welcoming log fire. Back to the hotel for a relax and a champagne afternoon tea. What more could you want !!
A gem of a place!!!

Room Tip: Pay extra for a lake view it's well worth it for the spectacular view

This really was a fairytale experience. We were a little concerned about arriving on our booked days as it was during the heavy snow we recently had. But phone call to ask if this was the case, they would rebook our reservations. As it was we arrived on our agreed day and it was the start of a magical stay. The room was lovely with breath taking views over the lake (we had upgraded). The food was sensational, But the main reason for our fantastic wedding anniversary experience was due to the staff. A mixture of nationalities, but the vast majority were in their mid twenties. Their service and politeness was second to none. They made us feel very at ease and comfortable in our new surroundings. A credit to their hotel training.

I found this delightful hotel and spa in the excellent book Room for Romance. I wanted something really special for my wife's birthday and it turned out to be more than special ...it was amazing.
The only issue we had was that the room was over the spa and it was too hot for us.
We called reception and were immediately offered alternative rooms...suitable though they were, we had fallen in love with our room and decided to open the windows while we went to dinner. Problem solved.

The food was excellent...the service second to none...the staff ..oh so courteous without being cringing.

I would recommend a pampering session in the beautiful spa...you will not regret it.

A walk around the lake takes about three and a half hours and is well worth undertaking.

All in all an excellent package...highly recommended.

We stayed for 3 nights during the recent snow at this lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Our room was large, clean and had a lovely lake view. The hotel was warm and cosy - open fire - particularly good following a walk in the snow. The dinner was delicious as were the lunch time meals in The Tavern. All staff are friendly and I had a wonderful treatment in the spa. This was our fifth visit and I'm sure there will be more.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view room. Walk over the hills behind the hotel, cycle round the lake ( bikes can be h...

We stayed for a couple of days midweek at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and despite the deep snow , had a marvellous stay. We were there on a deal from a voucher company which was extremely good value. I'm not sure that we would have gone otherwise as the standard prices do seem a little on the high side. The room was clean and very comfortable, albeit a little on the small side, and the view over the lake was awsome, made even more so by the covering of snow. The hotel staff were attentive and courteous and the restaurant and food were of a high standard. The staff worked their socks off to ensure that access to and from the hotel was kept open. I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel especially for its ambiance and location but would certainly look for a package deal either direct or though some third party company.

Room Tip: The Lake views are so spectaular that they are worth spending a little extra on
