My friend and I booked a 2night Spa break and arrived on the spectacular lake setting full of optimism. This did not last long. The reception area was shabby(to say the least)and we stood for a good 5 minutes while the receptionist was taking another booking-even though we could be seen from the office no one offered to help us. After check in we went to The Tavern for lunch-big mistake. Took them 25mins to bring the worst coffee I have ever tasted(machine in pub broken) mediocre food. We then decided to check the spa-it looked about 100 years old. Our room, which was terrible, made us decide to leave. We were offered another room which we turned down and in all fairness to the Manager he did offer free accomodation(in view of how far we had travelled)but obviously we refused as did not want it to seem this was our aim. The setting of the hotel is superb but unless, in my opinion, the issues in this hotel are addressed it is all wasted. I have re-read some of the reviews from other guests as well as re-checking the website and actually feel I must have been in the wrong hotel!!!

We have visited this hotel on numerous occasions. We will definately be staying again. A truly relaxing stay, absolute tranquility. To escape the rigours of life, relax and dine to a very high standard... go to Lake Vyrnwy. Ideal for couples who wish to spoil themselves. I would not advise taking small children although they do cater for everyone.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. Lake view is preferential.

We booked to go for three nights for our wedding aniversary and took our dog along as well, weather was terrible but the hotel was lovely, very spacious room with a super view of the lake, afternoon tea was very nice and reading our books in front of the fire was very relaxing. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, Dinner was very good, walks around the lake where very enjoyable. Also the bed was huge and very comfortable, a very relaxing hotel and we hope to stay again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a lake view!

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Lake Vyrnwy for their hard work and commitment over the new year celebrations. There was never a miserable face amongst the staff although I bet they wished they weren't working! I have reviewed this place before but wanted to tell folks about the new year offer. When we arrived we were given a room over the kitchens which was very small smelly and hot. We asked if we could change and were lucky enough to get a lake side view room. Afternoon tea was for all guests. In the evening there was a champagne reception and canapés. All guests adhered to the black tie request which was nice so no one felt left out. The champagne seemed to go on forever...as you emptied your glass a waiter was there with another. I can't even remember what we had to eat, there must have been about 8 courses which were all delicious. Fireworks and dancing took us into the new year. New Year's Day was a buffet style brunch/ breakfast. There was also lunch laid on, which we gave a miss. Afternoon tea after a variety of outdoor pursuits were laid on from clay pigeon shooting to archery and a trip around the estate. We expected a fairly subdued evening meal but I was wrong....another 6 course meal....cheese in abundance laid on for all to help themselves....another very full tummy, but this is so typical of Lake Vyrnwy...they never disappoint with their food. On both night the tables were dressed superbly with crackers hats and table confetti...stunning! We have come home with very nice happy memories and will certainly consider doing this again...well done Lake Vyrnwy!!

Highly recommend Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, we only booked the night before going and we were not disappointed with the room/ location or how friendly the staff were. We had a large garden room with a nice four poster bed, which was tastefully decorated with solid traditional furniture. The ensuite bathroom was extremely spacious having a jacuzzi and separate shower.

We arrived at 1pm a little bit early to check in so we went for lunch at the Tavern, where we had great service and good food, before having a stroll round the lake to tire out the dog.

After our walk we tried out the residents lounge for a cup of tea /beer and to take in the stunning lake views, homemade biscuits accompanying the tea, nice touch. Very tempted by the afternoon tea, but still full from lunch. (Will have to come again) lovely log fire helped the relaxing ambience.

in the evening we chose to eat again in the Tavern and we were again delighted with our meals and staff who were attentive and friendly.

We had a sound nights sleep and good breakfast overlooking the lakeside. Will definitely return, recommend to all a great place to switch off from the day to day pressures of life.

We had a lovely post Christmas stay at Lake Vrynwy, the lake view room was definitely worth the additional cost. We arrived for lunch in the pub next door 5 minutes to 3pm - and the closing time for the kitchen was 3pm. It was probably fair enough to turn us away, but I still felt aggrieved if I'm honest, after all we only wanted a snack, but the only option was crisps or afternoon tea. Anyway, the hotel itself is lovely and peaceful and just ideal. Dinner in the evening was good, if a bit rushed. Quite the opposite to our experience at breakfast - where we were clearly invisible and waited over half an hour to be served. Overall the good things far outweigh the criticisms - I would recommend this hotel to any couple wanting a quiet weekend away in lovely surroundings.

Turned up without a booking on Saturday 29th December and we were lucky enough to get a garden room at a very good price. We love this hotel - roomy, comfortable and with lots of character - log fires, grand piano and yes you can take your dog! The service is excellent too. The views of the lake are wonderful and the food is good. This time we ate in the restaurant rather than the bistro/pub. but would probably stick to the latter next time. The hotel is probably best suited for adult breaks.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms cost more and are great in summer - but in midwinter you can't see a thing outsi...
