“Staff need some training in customer service”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

For two days in a row we were turned away from getting food due to it being fully booked.

This I completely understand however on the second day we turned up at 11:45 and were told "Sorry we're not open yet, come back at 12:00". We dutifully waited outside for another 15mins, then went back in to be told "We're fully booked come back at 2:15pm".

I find this pretty rude and/or lazy. Couldn't they have told us that 15mins ago? They knew we were waiting outside. Also bare in mind that the place was completely deserted apart from the 4 of us.

A decent pub/restaurant would have at least put some effort into accommodating our small party. For example we would have happily continued to sit outside. We weren't even looking for a full Sunday lunch just a sandwich.

It's not an experience that will stop me visiting the pub again in the future (e.g. next time we're camping nearby) but I do think the place is going downhill over the years. For example I'm not sure the addition of a micro-brewery and reduction in tables / space has really improved it much.

Ah well, hopefully next time.

“Great pub in a pretty village setting”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Really nice pub in a beautiful small village around 6 miles from Brecon. Didn't stay here overnight but the food and beer was great and the pub retains many of the original features, while being modern and chic! Really nice and worth a visit!

“Will recommend !”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Had a trip to Llangorse Lake & a walk in the sunshine. Beautiful spot - then visited the Red Lion, after seeing it on this site. Excellant pub- very welcoming, beer brewed on site! Had really good lunch in lovely surroundings. Comfy & clean! Will definitely visit again. Can recommend the chicken curry & chicken tagliatelli. Only problem - I was too full to try a sweet!!

“Home cooked food and a warm welcome”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

After a hard day's walk in the Brecon Beacons we were looking for some relaxation, good beer and a nice meal - this place ticked all the boxes. The log fire, sofas and own-brewed ale was an excellent welcome. The menu was varied and really tasty. There are two pubs in this small village and we wish we had found this one first! Just a word to the wise - this place does feature a large TV showing sports events so check the fixtures if you are lining up for a quiet meal!

“Warm and welcoming”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We called here one cold January Sunday in search of warmth and food. The food and service was fantastic. the menu was varied and included options for vegetarians also. We sat by the fire with the dogs and warmed ourselves. The staff and locals were friendly and welcoming.
We would definitely recommend this place.
