The Lake Country House & Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 12, 2010

An old friend and I arranged to meet up, we chose Mid-Wales as we had never been. The Lake Hotel seemed an obvious choice as it had all we were looking for. The beauty of Mid-Wales is the best kept secret!!
We found the hotel delightful and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The grounds are magnificent and we were lucky enough to have sunshine throughout our stay.
I would thoroughly recommend a trip to the Spa, again all the staff were extremely warm and friendly. I booked treatments with Linda whom I can't praise enough. She was amazing and I've had no trouble with my neck and shoulders since. All in all it was a thoroughly relaxing and rejuvinating experience. I would go back again just for the massage!

An enjoyable stay in a fine hotel with superb facilities in beautiful surroundings marred by a pushy manager/owner. My wife and I had not even completed registration before being asked if we were having diner that evening and met with a sour face when we said no. Also the same person was overheard to say to another member of staff "you've got to get them early otherwise you've lost them" what exactly 'get them' means in this context I can only guess! Other guests we spoke to also remarked on this attitude. The bedroom window in our suite would not close and had evidently not done so for some time and no tea and coffee facilities in our room in this day and age? On checking out we found that numerous items had been erroneously added to our bill which added over £100 before being correct with the computer taking the blame. A pity !

We stayed for 3 nights in November 2009 and had the place pretty much to ourselves and it felt really special. Its relaxed but with good attention to detail. The food was superb with a particularly great cheeseboard and pre dinner appetisers each night..

Stayed in one of the new suites in the adjacent building to the main hotel. Beautiful room, lovely toiletries and yummy homemade shortbread.

Its not cheap but worth it for a treat. Would highly recommend and look forward to going back.

We try and visit Lake Country about once every three months for a night of rest and relaxation.
Every time we get a warm welcome for us and our dog.
The 50 acre grounds are fabulous for walking and normally one of the hotel's dogs, Cassie, joins us so our dog gets even more exercise. A walk down past the lake, alongside the river and through the woods will relieve all stresses of real life.
The spa is great for a chill out - especially the hot tub over looking the lake. I have some great massage treatments, facials, etc.
There is also a tennis court, croquet lawn and mini golf course which is great fun.
The staff are friendly and cannot do enough to help you.
The food is great - haven't had a bad meal in about 12 visits.
We always have a room in the main house - they have recently been refurbished and are very smart now though still cosy and welcoming. Also very clean and have great toiletries in the bathroom.
Can't wait for the next visit!

We've just returned from a weekend at the hotel and could not fault it. It is in a fantastic location, with lots of lovely walks on your doorstep - ideal if you are bringing your dog, like we did - and the food was amazing. Our room (the Pump House) was spacious with views over the gardens, very clean and the L'Occitane toiletries a bonus. As for the staff, they were all extremely friendly and helpful, we would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone and would come back again for sure.

The Lake Country House is beautifully situated in its own grounds and surrounded by stunning Welsh countryside. Our "suite" had lovely views onto the gardens and river. It was spacious with an integral room for our 8 year old. The bed was gorgeously comfortable and the room tastefully decorated in period style - lovely. One of the best things was being able to relax any time of day in the lounge on comfy sofas in front of the roaring log fire, playing cards, reading and enjoying lunch or afternoon tea or pre dinner drinks. We also loved the swimming pool in its own separate building with views to the countryside, a sauna, hot tub and gym and treatments. We loved being able to just walk from the hotel into the countryside. Our daughter loved the hotel dog "Cassie" who we were able to take with us for walks. The food was excellent. The service from everyone was friendly and helpful. I think this hotel is a very rare gem and can honestly say that all round I cannot think of a hotel I would rather stay in.

Having just spent the night at this lovely hotel I feel it my duty to tell everybody. Its simple if you want a quiet relaxing weekend, lovely food, fantastic service, and the air of nothing is to much trouble, then just get your credit card and book it. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this goes in my top ten. Enjoy
