Its simple if you want a quiet relaxing weekend, lovely food, fantastic service, and the air of nothing is to much trouble, then just get your credit card and book it. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this goes in my top ten. Enjoy

We stay here every two years for the past 6 years. It gets better and better, the food is constantly of a high standard and impresses my wife every time (and she has worked with Roux,Rhodes & Ramsey!)

The junior suites are lovely have their individual querks but are very comfortable and spacious.

The staff are amazing, our last trip we were so pleased with their attitude helpfulness and enthusiasm,i spoke to chamber maids, receptionists, the girls in the Spa and I was struck by their pleasantness and willingness to help.

The Spa,is a treat, lovely warm pool modern gym equipment and a jacuzzi with views over the private lake which is stocked with trout in which you can fish for a small cost.
For a romantic weekend you cant beat the Lakes

Stayed here for our first anniversary out of season and have a lovely time. Had one of the rooms separate to the house which tend to be larger and it was huge with a big living room and massive bedroom with a fantastic bed which they turn down each night while you are dining. The bathrooms are to a high standard and have L'Occitane soap dispensers, which is a nice touch.

The house itself is full of character and very cosy in an evening with the fires going. There are old board games and books dotted around the various seating areas as well as enough country life magazines to keep you going for some time. During the day they have two dogs (lab crosses) who come in and out of the house which is fun.

The food is to a very high standard and enjoyable. Aperitifs are served before going in for a small soup then your three courses. There is a good selection to cater for most tastes.

The spa is small but functional and quiet. There is a Jacuzzi on the first floor balcony and a small gym but the big selling point for us was the pool which is a good size and quite no matter what time of day you go. Book in advance for treatments though as they do sell out.

Outside they have a pitch and put 9 hole course, tennis courts, croquet lawns and a lake which you can go for a leisurely walk around. There is also a full size snooker table in the house. The room was being used for a conference when we were there but when we enquired in the evening they cleared the room, set up the table and put the heating on for us.

All in all it is a great get-away place which is well suited to those who do not want to go far during their stay or those who want to go on some long walks. Prices are reasonable for this type of quality probably due to the out of the way location.

My partner, myself and my 86yr old mother went to the Lake Country Hotel for Christmas and we could not fault it. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was excellent and the staff could not do enough for us. We spent two nights and had a very pleasant time. We had forgotten our swimsuits but the Spa had several spare ones so we could enjoy a swim and a sit in the outside hot tub surrounded by snow.. We hope to go back with more of our family for a fishing and spa weekend. The young manager, Luke, will go far. He managed to create a very relaxed ambience and was effortlessly charming. Expectations are always high at Christmas and this hotel met them all.

Have just returned from 3 days at the Lake House and didn't want to come home! Everything was really lovely. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to be helpful and considerate, nothing was too much trouble. Gave us lot of information on what was best to do and see locally in the short time we were there. The food was great, of a very high standard with plenty of choice and variety even though we ate there for 3 nights in a row. The hotel was relaxed and cosy (lots of log fires and comfy sofa's) and not intimidating in anyway. We had a junior suite which was a very decent size with a really comfortable bed, down pillows and duvet, etc. Delicious smelling L'Occitane toiletries in the huge bathroom. Homemade biscuits every day in the room. Only minor gripe about the room was a couple of the windows didn't shut properly (warped by weather I assume but i am sure had I requested it, someone would have come to fix it) and no TCMF (paid £3.50 to have a cup of tea delivered each morning!) If you stay in one of the luxury suites in the lodge, TCMF provided at no extra charge. The spa/gym,pool was small but very nice and I had one of the best massages (ask for Amy). All in all a fab overall experience. We were made to feel welcome and pampered and I can't wait to go back. One note to the hotel - make it better signposted immediately outside, we drove past 3 times as the elevation you see from the road looks nothing like the website photos. We thought it was a private house until we realised there is nothing else in the vicinity.

This is a lovely, relaxing hotel surrounding by beautiful scenery that does have a few drawbacks. The rooms in the new building are gorgeous. Large, bright, well-furnished and clean they have comfortable beds, large closets,tea/coffee-making facilities and homemade cookies. The bathrooms are well-equipped and good-sized. The housekeepers did not change the sheets or towels at all during our 3 night stay however, which seemed a little too "green". We even left wet items in the bath tub and they just got rehung.
The food is very good--sometimes excellent. The staff is cheerful, pleasant and when the restaurant is not busy, they are extremely capable. The morning buffet always had something empty, however: orange juice, fruit salad bowl, etc. When pointed out, the missing item was always replenished but the next to go wasn't ever noticed. Dinner was very good and varied in choice all three nights but the last night, a group of 14 was seated in the restaurant and dominated everyone. We were told after 1 1/4 hours of ordering and waiting in the lounge that we wouldn't be seated until after the group was served as per the chef's request. We insisted on being seated which we then were and were also well looked after. When we asked to speak to the manager about the long wait we were told there was none on duty. Hmmm.
We still enjoyed the hotel immensely and hope that the two glitches mentioned were just glitches and not regular occurrences.

We recently stayed on a 5 for 3 summer offer - fantastic value. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival and throughout our visit the staff could not have been more helpful & friendly. The food was excellent - as with other reviews the service in the restaurant was a little slow on the odd occasion, but a really minor issue as everything was so good. The hotel had lovely grounds and was in a good spot for touring the area. Would definitely go back, altough it would be a little expensive without the offer.
