Black Hall Lodges

I have been to Black hall twice and have had an amazing stay both times.
We have stayed in the Winnipeg Lodge and the Helsinki Lodge.
We love both for different reasons but I have to say the location of the Canadian lodges are better positioned and not so crowded.

The hot Tubs are great and a really nice way to unwind in the evening.

The pool in lovely and warm even in the winter and my kids have enjoyed hours of fun in there.
The playroom/Games room is nice to play pool/Darts /Read abook while the kids play in the small soft play area.

Great kids play areas around the park , and amazing views of the countryside.

The staff are really friendly and helpful.

There is hardly any phone reception out here and you do have to pay for WI fI if needed , but this did not bother us.

Room Tip: All Lodges are Lovely but the Canadian Lodges are better positioned

Spent a long weekend in one of the lodges in the October Half term. When we got there we were shocked on how nice it was. The lodge was amazing with hot tub and sauna. I had no phone reception or internet so was truely away from work. The accomodation is of a high standard and the people running it are extremely helpful.

My to sons loved it as there was the indoor pool and games room. Also a play barn with toy tractors, so my biys were occupied.

I can honestly say that this is the first place I have been to and want to go back to as soon as possible. I cannot recommend this place enough. It is very quiet and all you hear are the sheep. It was bliss

Just returned from Black Hall Wigwams and we are already planning a return visit in the New Year. We stayed in July this year ( 2 families, 6 children ) and hired 3 wigwams. I was pensive as any form of camping leaves me cold but Black Hall was the exception. The Wigwams were clean, cosy and comfortable.
The 2 couples had a Wigwam each and the children all shared which they found a great adventure. We cooked using a barbeque but the kitchen block was more than adequately equipped with cookers, microwaves, toasters and utensils.
The shower block was immaculately clean and warm with lovely hot showers and the staff cleaned it thoroughly every day.
We paid extra to use the on site pool facilities and games room which also where in tip top condition.
We returned again just (November) without the children for just a weekend and found nothing changed, still beautifully clean and well equipped.
The weather was a lot colder ( heavy frost over night) but the wigwams once warmed up stayed just toasty and we sat out wrapped up drinking mulled wine and looking at the masses of stars (there is virtually no light pollution and you can see the Milky Way and thousands of stars)
Anyway can't say enough about BlackHall Wigwams, just great for families or couples! :)

Room Tip: All of the Wigwams have a great view down the valley

This is our second visit to Black Hall Lodges, we love the place! Its our perfect getaway holiday. We our a group of lads so find it hard to find places to stay due to the usual reputation that usual student lads leave, but we are all work mates and luckily black hall lodges gave us a chance to prove ourselves and were happy to let us come back again. Our lodge is always very clean on arrival and i find the review on here very hard to believe about dirty lodges, the beds are always clean and never stained, we are always happy with the accommodation and especially enjoy the main games room that consists of an american pool table, darts board and ping pong table. There is also an indoor swimming pool, gym facilities and sauna and steam room. We will definitely be returning to enjoy the lovely facilities very soon! Mr M Jobson

Room Tip: All Lodges are well kept it depends how many are travelling to which lodge you will require!

Stayed at Blackhall lodge in the Helsinki timber lodge. Beautifully furnished, clean & warm. Hot tub outside which was wonderful under a clear lit starry night. Leisure pool was heated with steam & sauna at the pool side. Highly recommended if required to get away from it all.

Room Tip: Take a good bread knife along as knives were not very sharp.

The lodges are immaculate and presentation of the interior is just beautiful.
The hot tub over looks he most breath taking view of the valley and the autumn colours of the trees were amazing.

We visited as a family with 2 1/2 year old daughter in March 2012 and had a lovely time at Black Hall.

We loved the remote location and picked it because there was limited mobile reception so that my partner could have a break from his work with a legitimate excuse not to answer the phone! We did purchase some internet time, can't remember the cost but it was reasonable for 24 hours.

We were in an Inari lodge and although I was a little sceptical about the open tread stairs with my daughter; as long as she didn't wear socks on the polished wood stairs she was fine.

My partner and toddler loved the hot tub - sitting in it watching the sheep in the fields below and watching the birds was a real treat. I couldn't use it as I was 5 months pregnant but sat out on the decking with them on towel duty!

We did use the bar-b-q and it wasn't in the best state inside - and probably the only way to get around this is to take them away completely as they are notoriously difficult to keep clean.

The lodge was clean, well furnished (very swish with matching soft furnishings in each room). There may have been the odd cobweb and fly but I didn't really notice (or care) as we were on holiday!

We don't have a dishwasher at home so didn't bother using it. However the washing machine was well used - for rinsing out the swimmers after the pool and hot tub and it meant that we didn't have to bring masses of clothes with us (and reduced the amound of dirty washing to take home). As the lodge had underfloor heating everything dried overnight on the airers in the porch area so we didn't need to use the tumble dryers on site.

The upstairs bathroom was HUGE with a corner bath, separate shower and sauna (not used). We did have an issue with the toilet constantly filling up (noise) but it was intermittant and you got used to it - I did report this to the girls and they were aware of the problem. I was surprised (and delighted) to find sample toiletries ie shower gel, body lotion, shampoo etc in both bathrooms - a lovely touch.

The upstairs bedroom was good with a lovely balcony and it was great to wake up to the sound of bleating sheep and singing birds rather than the usual urban noise and light pollution.

The downstairs bathroom had a huge walk in shower - great for rinsing off after the hot tub.

The open plan kitchen/diner/lounge was fine for our needs. Lovely big fridge/freezer and lots of cupboard space - be aware of the underfloor heating though as it'll turn your veges if they are kept in a low cupboard. A lovely touch was a tea/coffee set for your first brew on arrival before your groceries turn up.

The kitchen was supplied with Ikea crockery/utensils and (as ever) in holiday rentals the knives could've been sharper. But there were nice touches like having a tray and matches were already supplied. I was a little tickled by the note in the cupboard that you would be charged for breakages (£2 per item - for Ikea crockery!!!) and wouldn't expect that from an Autograph level accommodation as for the premium price breakages need to be covered in the pricing policy. As another person has commented I think we had difficulty getting the oven and hob to work to our requirements but we didn't stress over it.

I was very impressed with the emergency kit if the power failed - but I'm that kind of practical gal that doesn't go anywhere without a torch lol!

We used the log burner a couple of times just for the novelty of it more than anything, we found that the central heating was very warm and had to turn it down - the lodges are very warm and cosy despite being open plan.

The family were very friendly and helpful - they were always working. The girls let my daughter help them feed the pigs and sheep in the field next to the lodges and saddled up "Ben" the shetland so she could have a ride around the paddock and give him a brush. It wasn't yet lambing season, so no baby lambs but plenty of sheep in the fields. We were highly amused by the sheep chasing the two pigs - something I've never seen before and I'm from a farming background!

We didn't mind the "walkie-talkie" set up (after initially feeling like a bit of a wally using it). It meant that family could multi-task with other jobs and man the reception. I imagine that (sadly) Rules have had to be read and signed by guests as a result of bad experiences from other guests. However at least they were clear and transparent about what levels of behaviour were expected from guests (this is commonplace when you go camping).

The pool was fabulous - lovely and warm, clean and most of the time we were the only ones using it. It was great to have a swim and watch the clouds in the sky and the animals in the fields behind the pool as you were leisurely swimming lengths! Any half-used shower gels etc were put in the showers at the pool so you didn't even have to remember to bring shampoo etc - how thoughtful.

The playroom was HUGE with a massive telly with Freeview, leather sofa's, ping pong table, pool table, table football and a small children's soft play area (and still space to run around). When we visited there weren't many other children there - we had the place to ourselves most of the week.

The only concern I had was that the stream next to the children's play area wasn't fenced off to prevent children falling down the bank and into the stream.

The barn with the ride on tractors was ace - a great indoor play space for wet/cold weather - during the week we were the only people playing in there.

As most people have put, book yourself a Tesco delivery for your first night then use Harry Tuffin's in Knighton for top-up's - for everything you could ever need and things you didn't even know you needed!

The remote location was fabulous - just what we wanted. However, there are limited day trips to do within reasonable distance of Black Hall for toddlers/children - bear this in mind if you are wanting to get off site every day. I think we were the only people who were there for more than 3 nights - lots of people did short breaks and just used the facilities on site.

Overral a great experience and we'd love to visit again (this time there'll be 4 of us) - despite the travel time coming from Cornwall. Just don't want it to expand too much so it doesn't loose it's seclusion and peacefulness.

Room Tip: We stayed in Inari 4 - although other lodges behind, infront and beside us didn't feel that we w...
