We discovered The Cors on Google. Read the reviews on Tripadvisor and were seriously impressed by the meal.

Had the hot smoked salmon starter, rack of lamb with a rosemary & garlic crust (cooked to perfection) and the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever tasted.

Arrive early and stroll around the gardens for 10 minutes.

Quirky surroundings and a great playlist of background music.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

Dining at The Cors is indeed a wonderful and unique experience. Food is cooked to order by chef/host/gardener/barman/owner/one-time artist Nick Priestland and is simply devine. The service is good but quirky and a bit hit-and-miss, but it all forms part of the experience! We stayed at The Cors for 2 nights and the food can only be described as perfect on both nights. The atmosphere is decribed as intimate, but we think this is misleading; in reality it's a bit cramped and you can be placed in very close proximity to other diners...unless you're lucky enough to be placed in the 'outer sanctum', separate to the main dining area and much more spacious. Sadly we weren't so lucky, on either night. So if you're for a quiet, candle lit dinner for 2 (as we were) then it may not be for you! However, if you're from the city and used to hustling bustling restaurants with people all around, then you'll probably think it's a bit well, intimate. So for the restaurant, it's wonderful as long as you know what to expect - to put this into perspective, we had booked the first night and Nick gave us the option to dine elsewhere on the second night...we chose to eat in his place again!!

The place is described as a 'restaurant-with-rooms'. Please do not think it's a typical b&b...it is not. As we discovered, it's perfect if you both want to drink and then stumble upstairs afterwards. It's lovely waking up to those beautiful gardens and the country air. However, in order to wake up, you need to fall asleep.....the room we had was immediately above the bar and the speakers (for the music system) were directly underneath us. Along with most of the guests! It was very, very noisy and impossible to fall asleep till everyone had gone, or gone to bed. For us, this was after midnight. If you intend to mingle with the other guests and be sociable, then again - it could be perfect for you. But if you want peace and quiet, look elsewhere. There's no TV or tea making gear ether, so you can't even put the goggle box on!!! Nice rooms though, if a bit basic.

One last thing.....The 'smoking area' is immediately below the bedroom window. We detest cigarette/pipe/cigar smoke, so had to keep the windows closed all night, making it very stuffy and uncomfortable. When we finally flung the windows open the next morning, one of Nick's VIP guests sparked his pipe up within 5 minutes, filling our room with smoke before we realised what had happened. The rush to close the windows was too late.

This point alone would stop us wanting to stay there again, which is a shame...but does not detract from the restaurant experience, which IS excellent.
