“Escape from it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

We booked Larkhill Tipis as we wanted to try the Tipi / Mongolian Yurt experience - what impressed us about Larkhill before we booked (and what swung it for us) was their commitment to generating their own power (solar and wind) and also their truly down to earth approach to what they have done.

We stayed 1 night in the Lavvu and 2 nights in the Mongolian Ger. Both had their own cast iron wood burning stoves which we cooked on and there was also the option of cooking in the on-site log cabin. The site had everything you needed - gas stoves if you wanted them, bbq's, phone charging point, warm showers, every item of kitchen equipment you could need, a great selection of leaflets on where to go in West Wales etc etc.

It was a really peaceful site and the hosts are truly lovely people who are more than happy to help with any question you might have. We found it was a great base for cycling / walking / trips to the coast. It felt like we were going back to nature but in the luxury of a lovely Lavvu / Ger. Highly recommended for a break away from it all.

Room Tip: The Lavvu is more 'back to basics' than the Ger depending on what you like but all have love...

We stayed in the Bentwood Yurt over Easter and had a brilliant time! The site is nice and quiet and Fran and Tony were very welcoming and helpful. The weather was extremely cold, but we just brought lots of warm clothing, big sleeping bags and duvets! The wood burner in the yurt was wonderful when it really got going, but unfortunately we never managed to keep it going overnight, so it was a tad nippy in the morning! Our 12 year old son had a great time making the fires outside and exploring the woods with his cousin who visited us with my brother and sister in law. The communal log cabin has everything you need for cooking, so you don't need to bring anything with you. The whole site is very atmospheric at night with the fairy lights, and it's amazing to be able to see so many stars.

You have to be a bit brave to have a shower though - they weren't very warm, but you just have to be quick (needless to say, our son wasn't worried about not showering!)

In summary, we loved it and will definitely do it again.

My husband and I stayed in the Mongolian ger for 3 nights back in May for a romantic break (only just got around to writing this review!!)

Fran and Tony are the nicest hosts, welcoming, friendly, they will chat with you if you like but also leave you alone to enjoy your stay, good balance. They gave us lifts everywhere (we had no car) and when we mentioned we would like to go to the steam train railways Fran even gave us some spare tickets for it - THANK YOU FRAN!

We had an absolutely fantastic time, made even nicer by the glorious weather we were fortunate enough to get during our stay. Our stay was exactly what we hoped for - peaceful, idyllic, different, and close to nature :) We enjoyed walks at sunset, meeting the turkeys, trying the compost toilet!! and lying on a cowskin rug in the evenings - not to forget the best part of all - dinner on the log fire every night before settling down to play a game of chess whilst toasting marshmallows under the stars!
Thanks to a delayed train we arrived in Wales hot, stressed, tired, and aching, but at the end of our stay we returned back refreshed, calm, happy, and thoroughly glowing!

We stayed here for 2 nights in October with our two children ( 4 & 2) and we stayed in the Mongolian Ger. Im not a big camper but decided to give it a go, and i absolutely loved every minute of it. My children loved the park and the walks around the site which had no other visitors at the time we were there so it was very, very quiet. Tony and Fran were very helpful and will definately be going back!

We stayed at larkhill in the easter school holidays 2012. We were with great friends which made our stay there even more wonderful. Larkhill is such a beautiful place so peaceful and relaxing, the kids had "the best holiday ever!!" and loved the turkeys too! Thankyou so much to Tony and Fran for creating such a beautiful slice of heaven! Cant wait to see you again in April this year!

We received a very warm welcome from Fran and Tony to this beautiful site on Boxing Day 2012. The facilities in the Brentwood Yurt were great; indoor cooker, comfortable double bed, lovely feather pillows with cotton cases, fabulous wood burner which was alight when we arrived, big basket of logs, good storage space, plenty of blankets, re-chargable torches replaced daily, cool box and ice packs replaced daily, candles, firelighters ... everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable had been thought of. The communal wood lodge was brilliant - cooker, sink, crockery and cutlery, dining table and chairs, a place to charge mobile phones etc, maps, travel info - and most usefully a restaurant guide which gave directions and menus for many places to eat out. We tried the Railway and The Belle - both were superb and prided themselves on using local produce and were really good value. The nearest local was the Lamb at Rhos which was really friendly. The 'rate the attraction' information at the site, where visitors can review where they have been, was brilliant and we went to a beautiful beach which had been highly rated and was well worth the 40 minute drive. The grounds are fantastic. If you were staying with small children you would not need to leave! Thanks to Fran and Tony for an amazing experience, this is a very special place.

My family recently had a weekend stay at Larkhill, and have to say it was an amazing experience. My brother and I took our parents away to celebrate our mum's birthday. They were a bit dubious at first, having never been camping before but we all loved every minute. We stayed in the Bentwood Yurt which was plenty big enough for 4 adults; had storage cabinets and a lovely stove which was perfect for making tea and bacon sandwiches in the morning!
We went in November so it was pretty chilly out, however the wood burner ensured we were not cold in the yurt.
Fran was a lovely host, courteous and very helpful and showed us round personally even though we arrived a little late on the Friday night.
There is lots to do in the surrounding area. We opted for a day trip to Cardigan and a walk around the beach at Mwnt which was lovely.
