“Very good food !”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

We spent 5 nights this week at this hotel. The hotel is good, the room we had, while comfortable, could have had a better view. But, the food, oh that made up for the lack of view !! There were enough choices in each course and since we were part of a group of 15 everything on the menu was tried by someone...and it was always good. The staff were attentive but not intrusive.
The hotel is a short walk from the St David's Cathedral and the town. Not much to do in town but the walks along the coast are fun. Luckily for us the weather was excellent all through the week.
My only grouse is: we could have been assigned a room with a sea view considering we had booked well in advance and the hotel knew we were coming from halfway around the world !

Room Tip: Ask specifically for a room with a sea view because it was not offered to us as an option.

Having read some of the reviews on here after booking a room for me, my partner and our dog I was concerned.

But what a nice surprise from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.

Friendly. Nice rooms. Spotless. Great food. Attentive.

A perfect romantic break for us.

It has a traditional style, but not faded or chintzy. It is a country hotel which does its job brilliantly.

It is more than a chain hotel in a city centre location, but they don't have the views, the grounds, nor the small number of rooms that mean you get a very personal service.

I know where I would rather stay.

well done to all the staff.

Room Tip: The counrty view rooms still have stunning rooms, and ask for a discount - it never hurts.

This hotel has one of the best bedrooms I have ever stayed in with regard to size, view decor and bathroom. Fully modernised. Downstairs is a different picture, dated, quaint and old county hotel. This would not be a problem if the price reflected this but it does not. The hotel advertises a pool. This is not attached to the house but across the lawn covered by what appeared to be a giant greenhouse. Not quite what is on offer for a similar price in the area.
We had dinner for four and here the hotel excels itself, the best meal I have eaten in a long time in a hotel. It was a shame there were not more diners to give the large dining room more atmosphere. Breakfast again was delicious. The staff were polite and helpful but it agree with other reviews that it would be nice mot have all members of staff with a good grasp of English or Welsh.
Good hotel but overpriced, if it pricing was more competitive it might find itself fully booked.

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, on a three night promotion – because we had stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon.
The hotel is located just outside St Davids in its own grounds and is well positioned for undertaking coastal walking - which, on the right day, is stunning and also for walking in to the village (city!).
The entry to the hotel is at the rear where the car park is located and the front overlooks the sea with intervening fields.
This is an old well maintained building with ‘character’ - not a modern purpose built hotel which tend to be ‘sterile’.
We stayed in a family room – even though there were only the two of us – because that was all that was available at a price I was willing to pay. This was so that we could have more than one bed. We prefer twin beds when staying away and on this occasion my wife anyway was suffering from a damaged shoulder and had been having disturbed nights.
Because of that we had a larger room than normal. This was located at the rear of the hotel, which actually suited us because that was where we had stayed all those years ago – not in the exact room (but almost) and obviously one which had been added in the intervening years.
The promotion was for three nights B&B and two nights dinner - so for dinner we opted for the first and last nights enabling us to make a judgement on whether or not the meals were ‘worth it’. Well in the event we added the middle third night because we felt that the food was very good and well worth the money. The breakfasts were also of a very good standard and plentiful.
Staff – whether front of house, bar / restaurant or housekeepers were great – friendly but professional and the service was excellent..
I know we were on a nostalgia trip but we both felt the stay had been really worthwhile exceeded expectations and left us feeling that we should go again - soon.

We returned to this lovely area of Wales after 20 years and everything was as it was- amazing views of the coast from the bedroom window, excellent food in the restaurant, good service (although some of the waiters are difficult to understand at time), very good breakfasts, pleasant gardens, lovely attentive receptionists..... I highly recommend this place; it is good value for money for such stunning surroundings with coastal walks as beautiful as that 5 minutes from the hotel.
I know that we will return.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view. Well worth the extra cost.

My wife and I drove to the coast and this was the first place which had vacancies. The view from the rooms are spectacular and are worth paying the premium for them. They have other rooms at twice the price which are quite magnificent and spacious with a bath you can lie in and view Skoma Island but was out of our price range on this occasion. The staff are very kind and informal, the food is excellent for the price and the setting is beyond compare. We certainly will return.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor. Great views but no lifts

It was late in the day, we had been driving for hours, it seemed a good choice. Wrong. This hotel reminded me of a seaside hotel in the 60's where (and no reflection on the guests that were there last week) retired civil servants, bank managers and army officers went for a short break. Considering the price the room was surprising. It was so small and poorly laid out that the easiest way to clean your teeth was to sit on the bed as you had difficulty getting past the basin on one side of the bed. The TV, I don't go to a hotel to watch the TV but I have seen larger screens in the seatbacks on aircraft. I did intend having dinner but the chef is obviously unable or unwilling to cook as the customer asks. I ordered beef and despite sending it back twice it was never served how i asked for it, medium. But the staff were nice, friendly, anxious to help and attentive. However I will never go back.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else
