“Stunning huse, great garden and good food!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Last time we visited was 1985! More garden to amble round including the wonderful walled garden - don't miss the fern house hidden in the wall - and lovely woodland walk. More of the house is open too and we had a brilliant tour guided by the director of the project who knew everything and was most entertaining.
Don't miss the art exhibition - such a treat; great shop and restaurant. It's such a lovely place to spend quality time even on a rainy day. Not to be missed!

“Stunning castle and gardens”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

If you haven't been to Picton you're in for a treat. The castle is really more of a stately home, and its rooms have the ring of authenticity, unlike many National Trust properties into which disparate items have been bunged from far and wide.
The rooms are fascinating, and the whole house has the feeling of being a home, and not an antiseptic preservation project. The gardens are gorgeous, with some superb trees, and I really wished we'd visited in spring or summer when they would be at their best.
Add on a lovely restaurant and small but tasteful souvenir shop and you have one of Wales' finest homes.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed the tour of the house as the guide was very knowledgeable although she seemed a bit rushed. Gardens are lovely, especially the walled garden, and they've made an effort to create some more interest for kids with the maze and the boardwalk. Didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked good.

Many thanks for your review. The gardens look splendid this year thanks to the work of the garden team, the HHSS students and our team of garden volunteers - I will pass on your comments to them. I am sorry you felt the tour was rushed but there is rather a lot to see in the castle in an hour, we like to give good value. We are now closed for the season apart from events but the gardens remain open and there is an honesty box.

“Just Spent an Enjoyable Time at Picton”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Had a lovely time at Picton on 8th September.

I don't understand the terrible review of the walled garden, which we thought was lovely. A wonderful variety of flowers, a fernery and a fishpond. I particularly enjoyed seeing the herbs and flowers with medicinal properties and the explanations of what they were used for. It looked well managed and kept to us.

We then went on the woodland walk and the walk round the east garden Also got lost in the maze.

Enjoyed the tour - it is not a grand house but it is charming and has some lovely features, including the minstrel's gallery and the stained glass windows in the family chapel.

All the staff were. friendly and informative. Also thought the entry fee of £8.90 reasonable, given what the upkeep of a house like that must be. We have paid a lot more than that to visit houses in our home county of Kent.
