We booked into Slate Mill Lodge as we were visiting Skoma, and also because the reviews mentioned the host's cooking. The reviews were not understated; David is a wonderful host and chef, and we were made to feel more like friends than guests. We arrived after a long journey to be greeted by David offering a cool beer, and the stay continued in this relaxed vein. The room was lovely - we had a Musselwick room - nothing was too much trouble, David was a wealth of kowledge about the area, and we also found out that it is dog-friendly. We would definately stay again.

We booked into Slate Mill Lodge for two nights as we wanted to visit Skomer Island. On arrival we were greeted warmly by David who was busy preparing dinner. Our room was in the Musselwick part of SML, accessed across a small bridge and into a fully equipped and sizeable kitchen / dining area with two of the bedrooms. As we had the choice of rooms we went for the double with a view over the ford and a tip to look at daybreak for otters. David had offered dinner for that first evening which we were lucky to say yes to as he is an exceptional cook. Overall this is a high quality B&B with a very welcoming host and we will no doubt return.

This place is the best B&B we have stayed in for years - a lovely house in the Pembrokeshire countryside surrounded by fields, sheeps and chickens, cosy and spacious rooms and, most important, David the owner himself. He is always up for a chat in his big kitchen during he is cooking the most amazing food I have ever tried. Homemade bread with herbs from the garden, tender roasted lamb and delicious Tarte Tatin with homegrown apples - is something you don't expect to find in the middle of nowhere. This best is clearly fantastic and highly recommended.

This was an ideal place to stay for our trip to Skomer. Our host was very hospitable and invited us to have dinner on our second evening. The food was excellent and we had a super evening.

Our room was comfortable and the bathroom smart and clean. The only criticism was that we had booked one of the Musselwick rooms but were allocated Room 7 which, as has been said before, is small, but adequate.

An enjoyable stay!

We chose Slate Mill Lodge because it is conveniently located for visiting Skomer. David was very helpful with planning our sightseeing. The surprise was that it turned into a gastronomic short break! David's cooking is truly wonderful - very imaginative use of local ingredients.

We were delighted with David's hospitality, and hope to return, soon. Four of us stayed in a spacious two bed roomed apartment which had a central kitchen diner. The building conversion and fit-out has been nicely done, more boutique hotel than B&B, this is a chintz free zone. We also appreciated the half price for children, which makes a big difference.

We called the owner on our drive to the lodge to let him know our approximate arrival time. He asked if we would like dinner, and we were delighted to accept, as this would save us the effort of looking for somewhere to eat on our way in. The lodge is a good 20 minute drive from any towns. The dinner was delicious and created from local food sources, including local asparagus and seafood. The meal for our two teenage daughters catered to their vegetarian request. (The do eat seafood and dairy.) We stayed for three nights, and ate breakfast (included) and dinner (cost added on) on two of the three nights. The owner and the women who helped him were all quite hospitable, welcoming, and cheerful. It was wonderful to go out for a day of adventure and come "home" to a gourmet meal and delightful company (referring to owner, help, and other guests). For the four of us, we had a suite of rooms with two bedrooms, kitchen, and bath. It was quite private and quiet. The location was perfect for us, as it was a short drive to the boat landing for a trip to Skommer Island to watch the puffins.
