“Not bad could be a lot better”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Went for a meal and a drink with my wife whilst in wales on holiday. The food was decent pub grub but nothing special., the beer was good. Felt that a lot more could have been made of this pubs history, at the moment there are a few banners telling a brief history a few framed documents and a scuffy newspaper article hanging on the wall. I'm sure a lot lot more could be done to make this a great place to visit. Seems very tied

What a lovely time we had, the owners fantastic and friendly. The meals were nice and plentiful. You are then left there after closing to stay downstairs and await........ Sounds I cannot understand. I did think it was Paul winding us up but he had gone to bed. We cannot wait to stay again, I tried booking again but they are fully booked for a long time. All in all we had a fantastic valentines night, all the better for friendly staff. We are on the cancellation list now. Claire and rob

Our stay at the Skirrid was unforgettable. After we had eaten a substantial meal in the restaurant we retired to our room in anticipation of a spooky night. We were not disappointed! We slept well considering we witnessed orbs and some sinister laughter. Our breakfast was huge and extremely tasty. Well done and thank you Geoff and Sharon.

Our third stay at this wonderfully atmospheric building was yet again no disappointment. The friendly enthusiastic welcome by 'jolly Geoff', the landlord and the bar staff was, as always, entertaining and warming.
After dropping our things in our room (the spookiest by far, room 2), we dined in the bar in the glow of the open log fire. The food was hot, with fresh vegetables, the steaks cooked as requested (well done chef) and promptly served by the chatty waitress.
Yes the bedrooms are a little dated and maybe the bathrooms could do with updating, but this all adds to the ambience of the building. Who want's to stay in a swish room when the building dates back to the 1100's? We want to experience the whole package - good food, great entertainment ( provided by Geoff ) and ghosts (we have heard noises but not as yet seen anything), We have experienced all three at the Skirrid and will continue to stay there for many years to come.

This pub is an impressive looking old building, but once inside it isn't particularly inviting. Staff were perfectly friendly and welcoming, but there was no atmosphere and it was really cold despite a fire. Food was fine and hot, nothing special, just pub grub. Not wildly expensive or amazingly cheap. Just really average. I wouldn't go again.

My partner and I have always wanted to visit the Skirrid Inn ans decided to go around Halloween. We were greeted by a very tacky statue in the front entrance and when we arrived at the bar we had to wait until someone came to serve us.Her attitude was very poor and she practically rolled her eyes at us when I asked for a gin and tonic. The food menu is on boards on the wall so you have to place your order at the bar, which is fine. I ordered the lamb and my partner ordered the lasagna. The food was out in ten minutes and my partners meal was cold in the middle, I suspect they are microwave meals and not freshly cooked. The food prices aren't cheap so we were bitterly disappointed. We also ordered a bottle if wine which was nearly a tenner which you can buy in a Supermarket for less than half that price.Sadly we won't be going back there as we found the food bad, place dirty and staff very rude.

We went for a birthday meal on a very cold and windy night the pub did live up to the spooky factor.

We were made very welcome with a nice selection of great pub food the prices were very reasonable can' wait to go back.
