Was taken here as a surprise by my gf. This place cannot do enough for you! Only criticism would be lack of veggie food choices, but that's just splitting hairs.
Spa staff were amazing.
Hotel staff were amazing.
Room was absolutely brilliant!
If you stay, get treatments, and stay in an executive suite!
Special thank you to James at reception for giving us such an amazing last minute deal.
Word of advice: bring ear plugs though because those beautiful roaming peacocks have a tendency to squawk in the evening!
Wonderful place, stunning scenery, and the best service you could ask for!

This place is amazing, great welcome and the room we had (201) was fab. Room was large, big bed, loads of storage, safe and a small fridge. Hotel is fab, very clean, all the staff were lovely and friendly. Bathroom was modern and clean although the towel rail was sooooo hot and we couldnt switch it off. Made the bathroom very uncomfortable. Breakfast was okay, nothing out of this world but tasty and good choice. The grounds were gorgeous, very well maintained. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, couldnt fault the food but the portions are very very small for the price you are paying but was very tasty. Bar prices are a bit steep but understandable. Only a 10 minute walk into Ruthin where there are numerous bars/restaurants.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 201 (double) very nice and quiet.

We stayed there as a family with a young child, the staff are very welcoming.
The castle is beutifully restored, the rooms have a good decor, the bathrooms require modernisation.

The food is good, however expensive if you eat there at lunch and evening meal, better to get a special deal.

The afternoon tea was excellent,we ate the savoury version, and this was great to have a choice,a nice array of savoury temptations and a fruit cake included too.,a few more sandwiches would have made it even better, thought they were being frugal!

Better to go here if you have a good budget for food and drinks, the village shops are walkable distant, however mainly little craft shops etc,or a burger and kebab place.

Breakfast very disappointing as not been replenished and for a buffet, not much choice either.felt let down by the breakfast and fruit bit old,not as fresh as it could have been.

The hotel needs to work on a few refinement to achieve excellence.

Our child adored the peacocks and grounds.

Room Tip: No swimming pool ,only a spa

Where to start...the castle grounds are beautiful and take you back to another era. We saw a number of peacocks most of whom were hams and loved to show off. The castle itself was a unique experience just because it is a real castle. We heard rumors about the need for repairs but overall we found the property to be in pretty good order. There were water marks on the ceiling indicating a leak in the room sometime in the past but the owners are working to correct these "problems". Dinner wasn't until 7PM, which is well past my stomachs ability to process food so we ate at the pub on the first floor. Service and food were both outstanding and reasonably priced. The front desk personnel were excellent. The town of Ruthin is a quaint old city with plenty of charm and wonderful people. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Peacocks wake up early and are noisy but this is part of the charm. If you want more sleep, bring s...

We had been given an Afternoon Tea experience for two at Ruthin Castle by our daughters partner as a Christmas present. We have been looking forward to it for sometime as we had not been able to find the time to take up the experience. However this week we were able to find the time and booked up for this afternoon. All went well as we entered the reception and they directed us to the library where tea was being served and told us a table was already laid up for us.

This is where it started going down hill. We had to wait quite some time before being served as no one was at the bar in the library. When I checked on the website I understood we could eat the afternoon tea all fresco if the weather was nice. As it was sunny we decided to do this. When someone eventually came and served us they said we could eat outside to go and find a table and they would be out shortly. This we did finding a nice table in the courtyard area. It then took another 15 mins before someone came out to ring us a menu or take any orders. They gave us the menu and told us we had the choice of a savoury tea or a sweet tea but could choose one of each if we wished which is what we choose. They then took the drinks order which was a pot of Earl Grey tea for two with sliced lemon and extra hot water but no milk. This took another age to arrive but arrived with milk but no lemon or hot water. This really does annoy me when I tell someone what I want and they just don't listen, its also very wasteful in that the milk brought would have had to be thrown away because of the heat. On bringing this out the same waiter that took the original order said he would sort it. However it wasn't sorted so much so that when the afternoon tea eventually arrived the tea was drunk but not in the way we had wanted.

We were brought fresh tea with lemon and hot water by another waiter.

The food was actually quite good and the service spoiled what could have been an otherwise unique experience. The surroundings and grounds of the hotel are fantastic and only 200m from the centre of Ruthin which is always worth a walk around. We were very disappointed by the whole experience and felt let down.

The final insult was when leaving the hotel through the reception area staff didn't even acknowledge us or ask us whether we had enjoyed our afternoon tea..there again maybe they knew we weren't pleased and didn't want to ask!

Thank you for taking your time to leave your feedback about your recent afternoon tea with us. It truly saddens the whole team to hear that the level of service you experience was not perfect. The service that you describe is by far well below the high standards we set ourselves and achieve. We appreciate all feedback as we are able to use it to improve and develop our service, I have contacted you directly today through Tripadvisor.

Was looking forward to a 3course Sunday lunch to a place which I thought would be 4* what a let down!! Starters well usually melon is chilled think it had been in the warm sunshine, puréed soup was like water, then the main beef just as well the knife was sharp, veg lack of it, waitress came with gravy towards the end of the dinner. Then it was the puddings, Eton mess yes usually meringue no sign of it, ohh and apple crumble yes without the crumble. Not one waitress asked if our food was ok and nobody to take drink orders, overall very poor service and certainly won't be returning. Grounds were lovely although not enough seating, a disappointing day!!!

We've just spent Saturday evening here with our family. The weather was perfect, as was the service, food in Berties & the overall experience was wonderful. Both Ruthin Castle & the small town of Ruthin are magical. There aren't many places in the UK you can find this experience. Even though this was our 5th visit, we can't wait to visit again! Our package included afternoon tea, which despite rather a long wait for the food to arrive, was excellent on arrival. Most of the staff are quite young, but their professional attitude & customer skills are also excellent.

Room Tip: Choose a suite for the extra cost.
