“Sleeping with royalty”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

An overnight stay that had been organised as a birthday treat and it was. Really friendly and helpful staff (I can get used to looked after). Delightful room with simply stunning views of the hills. We both slept well having been hill walking during the day. A long soak in the large bath may have helped. All we needed was available and had our budget stretched a little further we might have sampled the restaurant as the menu was so inviting. That said it was a wee bit pricey so we decided to eat out (The Myddelton in St Peters Square). We chose the continental style breakfast which was buffet style. No problems there at all with a selection that will suit most tastes.

The castle and grounds are amazing. Even with an overnight stay my partner has so many photographs we might have been away for a week! We took a gentle stroll in the slightly overcast morning and were rewarded with a display by two of the peacocks that roam the grounds. I haven't convinced my partners that it was all in the price!

We will be back, such a brilliant experience has to be sampled more than once.

Two disappointments, firstly was the lack of sunshine to lighten the sandstone of the castle buildings: there again, we can't have everything! Secondly, my partner noted that the Prince of Wales has stayed at the castle - she couldn't find any photo's of him...

Stayed in the Prince of Wales suite, which is a bit over priced for what your get. The ground floor is brilliant with a lovely reception, dinning area and bar. The room itself was a little dark and could do with modernizing, and there was too much noise first thing in the morning from the water pipes. Staff in the hotel are very friendly, and the food in the Restaurant was very good and reasonably priced

Outside the grounds where lovely and well kept.

My Partner and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night in March 2013. The hotel itself is stunning, very friendly polite staff. all staff said 'hello' to us in passing which was nice. The grounds are truly beautiful with resident peacocks wondering around, there are loads of them! We didn't eat in the main restaurant as it looked a little flamboyant for us so opted to eat in the Library Bar. The food we ordered was delicious and at a very reasonable price we definitely do not regret opting for the cheaper of the restaurants. I wouldn't say the bar was particularly well stocked to be perfectly honest. There was 1 beer on draft, which had just ran out and there wasn't a wide range of spirits to choose from either. Our room as nice, a little bit disappointed that it was more contempory that we had assumed it would be. Not in keeping with the hotel. We used the Moat Spa during our stay. The staff in there were not to the same polite and friendly standard as the main hotel. We were given robes, flip flops and towels to use. Shown around the spa area sauna/steam room/lounge area/hot & cold tubs. but we were not spoken to about treatments on offer and the receptionist was too busy talking to a therapist. We would have been quite happy to spend money on the treatments however were not prepared to part with our money after the level of service that we recieved.

Me and my partner recently stayed in Ruthin castle as a get away for her birthday.
As soon as we got into the grounds we were blown away . The castle , the grounds everything even down to the peacocks wondering around the grounds took our breath away . We stayed in room 302 which was amazing. Every detail was perfect .
We met an amazing member of staff named GARETH who went out of his way at every point to make our stay more than perfect . He alone made our stay great.
Me and my partner would like to say a massive thank you to Gareth and the rest of the staff for making our stay wonderful

I recently attended my son's wedding here and I must say, the venue was perfect for a wedding. I stayed in a Deluxe room at a cost of £175 for two nights bed and breakfast, single occupancy,
My room, which was on the second floor, was far from being 'Deluxe'. The mattress was hard, the pillows even harder! There was a trouser press, which converted into an ironing board complete with a small iron, which did not work. The bathroom was in need of a refurbish. The shower screen did not fit properly and there was black mould on the joins. There was only one light working above the mirror in the bedroom area. However, I did have a plasma tv!! The rooms were nice and warm.
The breakfast was of the continental variety. A full cooked breakfast had to be purchased at a cost of £6.50.
Another guest had a cheaper room on the first floor (£135 for two nights single occupancy) and this room was fantastic. The bed had a memory form mattress and the bathroom was suburb.
The staff were absolutely wonderful. Very friendly and helpful.
Apart from the lack of sleep due to an uncomfortable bed, it was a truly magical occasion.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms on the first floor.

I booked the Prince of Wales suite for 2 nights for a birthday surprise. Words cannot begin to explain how truly wonderful it was, pure luxury. From the minute we walked into the hotel we were greeted with very helpful and polite reception staff. Our room wasn't ready as we were a little early so we used the time to have a drink in the library bar (one of the many stunning rooms in the castle) while our bags were taken upstairs for us.

We had a meal in Bertie's restaurant the first night and yet again we were greeted with friendly, helpful and extremely polite staff. The food was wonderful and full compliments go to the chef.

The Prince of Wales suite is pure luxury and has to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately the pictures on the website do not do it justice. We could have the heating on whenever we wanted, everything was in working order and all beverages and water were replaced for us following our first night by the domestic staff (again delightful and friendly).

The Moat Spa was an experience in itself, we had trouble finding it as the hotel is quite vast so upon realising we were struggling a member of staff offered to guide us. We had the spa to ourselves for over 2 hours, it consisted of a sauna, hot tub, warm tub, cold tub, relaxation room and a steam room which was out of order but that certainly didn't spoil the experience.

To sum up, Ruthin Castle has to visited to be believed. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the food is fantastic, the accommodation is tremendous and the grounds are kept well maintained and clean with ample parking. The spa is a must for sure.

Room Tip: I would recommend the Prince of Wales suite, it's worth every penny for that special occasion.
