Stayed in room 205, check in was very easy. I had contacted the hotel several times before our arrival due to the weather conditions (snow) and my food requirements as I am gluten free, staff were very helpful and assured me everything would be sorted. Our room was very comfortable and clean, with an old fireplace etc, very much in keeping with an older establishment which we loved.
The food in both restaurants was superb, and my dietary needs were well catered for.
The only issue we had was the lack of gluten free products in the welsh bakery breakfast, first morning there was no bread available as they had run out. Although there was a choice of fruits, ham & cheese, cereals, breads, cakes, pastries my options were limited and I have to admit I was very disappointed, especially as i had been informed they would provide pastries etc for me. On the second morning there was bread available, but again no pastries etc not what I would call a welsh bakery breakfast for gluten free.
But on the whole we had a fantastic stay, the staff are so friendly and helpful they are a massive asset to the hotel. I would back again, but take my own bread etc.

Room Tip: There was a wedding on the first night and one guests on the first floor had to be moved because of...

Stayed here 2 years ago and had the best time ever! Wonderful service, lovely room with great views, friendly and very accommodating staff.

Came back for a two night stay with our bro and sister in law, the room was one of the newly refurbished ones in a wing off the main castle. The room had been tastefully decorated, was spacious and very comfy; we had views into the moat where the new 'outside sauna' and 'dutch plunge bath' is located, not the best but quiet and not overlooked :-) My only complaint with the room was the lack of running hot water from the bath tap, don't get me wrong, we did have hot water in the sink and the shower, just the bath tap not working. We filled the bath from the shower...... I reported this to reception who immediately offered to move us, they were very helpful and apologetic.

Breakfast was cold buffet style Welsh breakfast, there is also a menu for other cooked breakfast items including a cooked English breakfast, however we were more than satisfied with the Welsh style. We did not eat at Bertie's restaurant as there was nothing on the menu that all 4 of us were interested in, so we ate in the village a short walk from the castle.

We would definitely go back, we love the entire place, the grounds, the building, the atmosphere.

We were Married here 4 years ago and our Wedding was extra special due to the magical surroundings. We visited for our 2nd anniversary and again this month for our 4th anniversary and had such a wonderful stay. I booked directly with the reservations team via e-mail and mentioned our history with the hotel and they offered us a very good deal for Dinner,Bed and Breakfast. On check in, the receptionist congratulated us on our anniversary and handed us a token for a complimentary drink in the bar which was a lovely touch. He then explained that due to the special occsasion, they had upgraded us to on of the Royal Salons! The room was fantastically extravagant (Jennie Suite) with wallpaper made to look like books so the whole room had the feel of a library. The open plan bathroom has a double ended bath, perfect for a romantic getaway and the view is fantastic across open fields. We ate in Berties restaurant after a rather large Gin and Tonic in the atmospheric Library Bar and the service in both the bar and the restaurant was fiendly, efficient and professional. The food was fantastic and again we were spoilt by being offered an amuse bouche and glass of Champers before dinner due to our anniversary. The restaurant is expensive though, be warned. I would advise to try to book on a DBB rate to save money as it is worth a visit or just splash out for a special occasion as it is worth it. Breakfast was good enough, continental is included in the room rate but you can pay a supplement of £6.50 for cooked breakfast. All in all, we love this place as it's very special to us. The rooms have always been spotlessly clean and the service very friendly. You can not fault the surroundings and Ruthin is 2 minutes walk away and is a very sweet little market town. If you are looking for something a little special, you wont be dissapointed.

Room Tip: Royal Salon for special occasions

We stayed here for our minimoon and enjoyed every bit. There was an issue with our booking but they resolved this straight away. The room was spacious and had luxurious details.
The Spa usage was included with our stay, we enjoyed this and paid extra for a spa massage.
The restaurant was nice but quiet. Food was really tasty.
The castle grounds were well worth a look and went further than imagined around every corner. We finished off with afternoon tea, yum!

Just returned from the hotel. Stayed 2 nights on 30 th. and 31st March 2013 in the Jennie Room. Our son stayed in the adjoining room 304 for one night on the 31st March,a lovely comfortable, light and airy room. The Jennie room was lovely, strange idea to have to glass sliding panel bath/shower within the bedroom, not a separate room but didn't cause us too much problem.

We arranged a function in the Peacock Room for 19 people for our Ruby wedding anniversary and my mother in laws 90th birthday, both on the same day. My mother in law lives in Ruthin, hence booking the hotel.

The room was set out beautifully and the fork buffet, hot and cold food was absolutely first class.

Special mention to the young lady who looked after all of us during the meal, she was a breath of fresh air and looked as if she was enjoying serving us, very rate today.

We have stayed at many top hotels in London including the Savoy and Claridges and can say the room and food was equal if not better than experienced in those hotels.

Lastly, the staff. I can honestly say all staff encountered were very helpful, so polite and always had a smile. Top marks for all of them.

Lovely location, really nice rooms. We will definitely return in the summer.

Well done everyone...

Room Tip: If you like a little privacy showering or using the bathroom don't use the Jennie Room.

We stayed on a KGB deal - £99 for 2 nights B&B for 2 people. Check in and were told that we have a Regal room allocated - went to room - very dark and gloomy and when we opened the bathroom door, the smell was horrendous! Quickly phoned reception, who were fantastic - told me that they would allocate us another room immediately. Were given the Oscar Suite, which although smaller and no view was in fact much nicer than the other room.
Found all the staff to be very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was more than adequate. Had dinner in Berties - found it very quiet but enjoyed that in a sense. Food was lovely. Fire alarm went off on last morning at 7.45am - it was a false alarm. On checking out, we were presented with a bottle of Cava to apologise for any inconvenience in the fire alarm - everyone checking out today got a bottle. Well done Ruthin Castle for excellent customer service - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again very soon.
