Myself, my partner and my parents stayed at AA 5* Firgrove B & B in Ruthin. We had the option of three rooms which are available at this wonderful place, one a smaller bedroom with recently decorated and refurbished modern bathroom but with absolutely everything you could wish for....cosy, comfortable, clean ! Myself and my partner stayed in this room and were really happy with our choice. There was a bottle of wine in the fridge as a welcome token, flat screen TV, hairdryer, modern basin, stunning views of the beautiful garden, fresh biscuits topped up daily and a large selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate etc.
The 2nd room available is much larger complete with a four poster bed, large en-suite bathroom for only a little more money, Beautifully decorated with an abundence of interesting books, loads of room to put cases etc, a rocking chair, flat screen TV, two large windows with views over Ruthin and the garden.
The 3rd room available is actually a small self contained cottage, complete with seperate lounge, bathroom, kitchenette, log burning stove. We did not see this option as it was occupied but we spoke to the lady who was staying in that room and she was just over the moon,,,home away from home !!
The house is set in spectacular gardens which are open to the public for a small fee if you are not boarding there. There are sculptured trees, an absolutely huge selection of exotic and beautful flowers, lawns, a pond, conservatory which is all tended by Phillip who does the gardening side of things mainly.
The house itself also has a couple of reception rooms beautifully decorated in keeping with the house itself and a lovely dining room with room for about 6-10 people.
The breakfast was everything you could possible wish for. A selection of cheese, ham, a variety of yoghurts, fresh fruit including strawberries, apricots, grapefruit. In addition to this, is a variety of cereals and muesli, jugs of fresh orange and fruit juices. Then, when you think you have had a enough, you are asked whether you could like tea or cafitiere coffee, brown or white toast and also what cooked breakfast you would like. Food enough for a king, beautifully presented and cooked. On looking of of the window in the dining room, birds including bluetits, chaffinches, robins, finches etc. happily enjoy their breakfast too on the bird table, feeders outside which are a pleasure to watch.
Anna, and Phillip, your hosts and proprietors, are absoutely delightful. They can't do enough for you, are always there to meet & greet you but never in the way or intrusive. They will happily inform you of good places to eat in Ruthin but are also there to cook you a sumptuous 2 or 3 course meal in the evening should you wish not to venture out.
We were only there a couple of days or so but have come away with a fantastic feeling of an enjoyable weekend and feels like we have know Anna and Phillip for years. I can't recommend Firgrove Bed and Breakfast enough...all our friends, colleagues and family have been told, well not quite and this is the place you have to book if you want to stay in this part of Wales.
Ruthin itself is a lovely quaint village only a few minutes drive away with a few shops, bars and restaurants. Chester is only half an hours drive away with medieval buildings and loads of shops, bars, restaurants and clubs. Liverpool is only one hour drive away.
Thanks Anna and Phillip
