“Loved this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2012

We had a an amazing time at Cleifiog Uchaf. It's a great place to stay before catching the ferry to Dublin as it's minutes from the port. The staff are really welcoming and helpful and the rooms are beautifully appointed. The restaurant is fantastic and so reasonably priced - 3 courses each, 2 bottles of wine and an after dinner drink - £98 with service. The beds are ridiculously comfortable and everything is clean. We stayed here after a night in a big chain hotel which cost the same - Cleifiog Uchaf was so much better! Definitely book this one.

We spent a lovely evening at Clefiog Uchaf, a restaurant which is on our doorstep. The building is most attractive and the drawing room, where we ordered our meal, is elegant and stylish. The dining room is more unusual, white furniture and a slate floor, much more contemporary than the drawing room - but it works.
As for the food: excellent. The menu is not extensive but this does not matter;each course was flavourful, beautifully cooked. I would highly recommend Cleifiog Uchaf

Not really a B&B as such, but restaurant with rooms or small hotel, with a delightful personal touch.

It scores on so many levels. The building alone, with the story of it's rescue and rebuild and refurbishment as an oasis of calm is fascinating; with interesting ongoing projects in respect of the walled garden, small letting units and the grounds in general.

Our restful room (No 5),was well appointed and comfortable. Where modernity was needed, ie efficient plumbing with plenty of hot water, it was there. The staff were helpful and managed that delicate balance between lovely friendliness and unwelcome familiarity with charm.

During our stay the chef was on holiday. Regardless, the short, daily changing menu of fresh local produce meant we ate very well, all cooked by the owner herself. No Brakes Brothers vans, or deep freezer stuff from a factory in Leicestershire or the like here!

Would we stay again..........................you bet, I am just trying to think why I need to be in Anglesey again soon!

what a delightful gem of a b&b, tucked away but just off the main Valley Road.
the house had a calm atmosphere, as well as being very well presented. my room
was very inviting and the bed so comfortable, with gorgeous linen. breakfast was yummy. i would recommend anyone visiting Anglesey to stay here.

Room Tip: room 1 looks out over the lawns onto the sea

We were here in May this year for my sister wedding. . The staff are super friendly - bending over backwards to help and advice with a thorough knowledge of the local area. The owners have done a fantastic job of restoring this Welsh long house into a delightful cozy retreat. The food is truly outstanding. I cannot recommend this place enough.
many thanks to all of you

We were here in May this year with our young cocker spaniel, Harry and had a wonderful break and actually had a meal served to us in the cottage by their staff on the Saturday evening as the restaurant was full. The food was very impressive I might add.
We have just been again for 3 days and cannot speak highly enough about the property and love sitting in the sunny conservatory, which is totally private for a total chill out. The funniest thing is that the owner has a spaniel called William so it is highly amusing having both the royal named dogs together in Anglesey. We are def going back and highly recommend a break here for both comfort and to enjoy the many lovely walks close by and the inland sea at the bottom of the grounds what more could you want!

We went for a meal only - my elderly mother's birthday. What a disappointment! Firstly we waited 45 minutes to be seated and so did all the other diners as we learned that the restaurant does a set meal for all at the same time. We had previously asked if a child (6 years old) would be welcome and they said that he would. However they did not explain that he would have to eat an adult meal at an adult price. Each of the four courses was separated in time by about 45 minutes (about two hours for the meal to be served). We finally abandoned coffee which had not yet arrived at 10.15pm. You might imagine that we were busily enjoyingh our food in the intervening periods but we were not. Think of a doll's house and the portions that might be served. For example soup was served in a small coffeee cup only half full (I kid ye not). They were miniscule. The most amusing part of the evening was when they served the tiny lamb chops sprinkled with half a dozen peas (no other vegetables) on a flat slate and then thin gravy was poured over them. The gravy promptly spread over the edge of the slate onto the table causing consternation to some and amusement to others. This was a moment of relief in the utter boredom that filled. the entire room. Having spent well above £30 a head we arrived home hungry and had several rounds of hot toast and butter to fill our bellies. A not-to-be-forgotten evening.

I am sorry for your disappointment and value this opportunity to deal with your concerns.
On the night of your mother's birthday we were holding a 5-course Tasting Menu for all
tables to start on or around 7.30pm. This was explained to all persons booking for that
night including the lady who booked the table on your behalves - Not sure of what the
Tasting Menu was, she expressed concern that it could be too much for your elderly mother,
thus was told that our 5-course Tasting Menu has been created soguests can
enjoy smaller portions of our seasonal signature dishes. On that night the price was set at £29.95 per person
The Amouse Bouche which was a rich and intensely flavoured soup was rightly for that menu
served in an espresso cup along with a croque monsieur. I sincerely sympathise with your
seemingly misunderstanding of the menu and concept of fine dining in that you considered
the 3 French-trimmed lamb cutlets to be 'chops' - these were served with freshly podded
garden peas as well as other freshly prepared vegetables
We also note with some concern your claim that the courses were separated by about 45
minutes (3 hours) plus a 45 minute wait to your table plus allow for eating time say 45 minutes
= a total of 4.5 hours - When we note on record that your table was booked for 7.30 and you
left at 10.15 - which is a duration of 2.75 hours for the 5-course Tasting Menu.
Sadly my staff and myself are concerned and confused with regard to your low rating for service
and value as the cost of the meal was £29.95 per head and that you included wtihin your payment a £20 tip for the service
I would like to thank you for your valuable feedback and hope that my response provides you
with a more positive view towards your evening spent - Our aim at Cleifiog is to create and build value to our customers
