“Food is a real let-down”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

We stayed in the hotel last Monday night and our rooms (two singles and a triple) were lovely. The triple was particularly impressive with plenty of room for three beds, a big balcony and sea views. However, it was as far away from reception as it is possible to get and I find it disturbing that there is no lift and therefore no disabled access to the bedrooms which are on the 1st and 2nd floors. Whilst not a problem for me, my sisters and brother, my elderly father found the stairs to his room on the first floor quite a challenge.

So far, so good - however, we were extremely disappointed with our meal in the restaurant on Monday evening. My first course was described as crayfish and smoked salmon - no sign at all of crayfish, just prawns, evidently previously frozen and not very big. I had baked haddock with a smoked salmon sauce as a main course - the fish was overcooked anyway and had been kept hot, so was extremely dry and there wasn't nearly enough sauce. The sort of ratatouille (it had mushrooms in it) which was one of the vegetable accompaniments tasted very much as if the sauce had come out of a jar - it definitely wasn't home-made. To finish, three of us had fruit 'pavlova' - this consisted of a shop bought meringue nest topped with cream and fruit which hadn't been shared evenly between the three plates (my sister had neither blueberries nor raspberries). Real pavlova should be home-made meringue which is crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle - not difficult. At £26.95 for three courses, this was a very expensive, decidedly mediocre, meal. Come on Trearddur Bay, this isn't good enough for a hotel of the calibre you aspire to and seriously downgrades the warm welcome we received, the helpful service and the quality of the rooms. Would consider staying again, but wouldn't recommend anyone to eat in the restaurant.

Room Tip: 705 is a lovely family room.

Many thanks for taking the time to write your review of the hotel - we do appreciate all feedback and constructive criticism is always valuable.
I do take on board all of your comments and will raise them with the team members concerned - the good points as well as the less good.
I would like to pick up on just a couple of your points here though. Firstly we would love to have a lift to the first and second floors of the hotel, but it is not physically possible to create the lift shaft required to install a lift - we have on a number of occasions carried out feasibility studies to do this and it is not possible. We do however have three ground floor rooms in Tower House, one of which is an accessible room which is also suitable for a family of up to six people.
I would also point out that none of the desserts available that evening were advertised as homemade - I would love to be able to employ a pastry chef to create a home made dessert menu, but budgetary constraints currently make that impossible. We do make desserts when we can and will then always state 'homemade' on the menu.
Once again thank you for your comments - they are all received in good faith and acted on.

Stayed at the Trearddur Bay Hotel on Easter Saturday 30 March. Booked on last minute so there were only 2 rooms left. Our room was on the top floor (No 30). It wasn't one of the more expensive rooms nevertheless it was spick and span, bright and airy. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and we had a sea view. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by reception staff. In fact every staff member is a credit to this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble.

We had dinner in the hotel which was satisfactory - we weren't expecting haute cuisine. We had an excellent bottle of Moulin a Vent which wasn't overpriced. Breakfast was buffet style, good, fresh and piping hot. This was our first visit to Anglesey which was very enjoyable. We commend the Trearddur Bay Hotel and would definitely return.

my husband and i stayed here for 1 night over the easter weekend. We checked in and got a room that was small, with a somewhat blocked view.. We spoke to reception who very kindly asked us to look at 2 other rooms that they had and choose another one. We chose a room in the Tower , with a lovely view of the bay !! Reception staff also asked if we wanted to upgrade for their March offer, which we did - so we added a 3 course meal for not much more. The evening meal was excellent, staff friendly and efficient. Very good experience overall.

Room Tip: The tower is away from main hotel but has lovely rooms with great view

We have stayed here several times and the hotel is in a great location. Dogs are welcome too which is a bonus as the beach is lovely, although canine restrictions apply to certain parts in season. We have stayed in the refurbished rooms 9 & 8 which are beautifully appointed, spacious and very very comfortable. My sister stayed in room 5 which has a balcony and the best view of the bay so I'm bagging that one next time. The breakfast is hearty and dinner provides a good choice and the quality of the locally sourced produce is excellent. The staff are friendly and very obliging. The attention to details might be missing on a few occasions - no salt, water glasses missing etc but they will quickly put it right. If you decide to stay check out some of the special offers which are excellent value for money. Might be worth checking if there is a wedding taking place and if there is go when it is a bit quieter and the staff are less pushed!

Room Tip: Definitely go for 5, 4 or 9

Not stayed here, could not find a separate selection for the 'Inn at the Bay'
Location and food equally pleasing. Have been coming here for a number of years and although not the cheapest place to eat it is a great venue for an after beach drink or a well earned Sunday Roast after a walk. Has maintained a good standard for the years we have been visiting.

The weather was too cold to take the caravan so we opted for a late deal at this hotel - excellent value, lovely views of beach and sea with a balcony which would have been lovely at above freezing temperatures. The restaurant was closed on Sunday evening but the bar meals were fine and friendly service. Breakfast was included and was ok for the price! I prefer a good strong coffee and the cooked breakfast done to order even if I have to wait for it. We didn't try the pool.

But these are trifles - great location, ample parking and a relaxed atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.
