We had visited Rhosneigr briefly last year and wanted to return to see how the village felt during a longer stay. We were not disappointed.
Ancones is situated just on the edge of the village centre - on the way to the golf course. There is off road parking immediately in front of the property which was most useful. The reversed nature of the layout - there are two en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor - works well. The first floor is given over to the kitchen/dining room (with view towards the sea) and the living room with excellent TV and cinema sound system. On the top floor is another larger bedroom (under the eaves) with en-suite. There was also a bunk bed in this bedroom. All rooms were nicely presented - the dining area was particularly bright and cheerful. The wi-fi worked brilliantly - a real plus for the kids! From the house it was a short walk - north to the longer kite surfing beaches and connections to the Coastal Path network, or south into the village centre & high street - then round the dunes to the Oyster Catcher - with views over to Llyn Maelog.
There's plenty to do with great cafes and eateries (Surf Café & Mojo amongst others), restaurants (Sullivan's & the Oyster Catcher), fish & chips (Scarlett's), an excellent ice cream emporium (Chaplin's) and surfing gear shops (including Gecko) to boot!
There are three main beaches to choose from - two are linked - Treath Cymyran & Traeth Crigyll - these are located slightly to the north and west of the village (running to one side of the airfield at nearby RAF Valley) and this stretch attracts kite surfers on more blustery days. The Coastal Path runs along its dunes towards Silver Bay and makes for a lovely walk when you time the tides right. The third, slightly smaller - Traeth Llydan - runs to the south of the village, also with dunes and the Coastal Path running its length. Surfers and body boarders appeared to prefer this section of the coast during our stay.
Getting around from the village was also easy - Llangefni is approx 15mins drive away with supermarkets - Asda, Lidl & Aldi - for stocking up on essentials. Holyhead is also less than 20 mins drive away - with similar facilities. Menai Bridge - approx. 30mins drive - has a small Waitrose store.
We also ventured over to the opposite side of the island to walk around Benllech and Red Wharf Bay - a really enjoyable day out with quite different perspectives, from classic sandy beach (Benllech) to more muddy wild estuary (south Red Wharf Bay) with lots of bird spotting opportunities.
We will be back again soon - this is a great base from which to explore the west coast and the rest of the island....
Stayed here for a weekend. Really well kept holiday rental, recently decorated from top to bottom and spotlessly clean. Three large bedrooms which are all en-suite and the lounge and kitchen areas are great to relax in. Easy walk to the beautiful beach and to the town with its Cafe's, restaurants and pubs. Nice to have off road parking as well. Overall this is a really good value for money property
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Ancones in May - the property was perfect for us with 3 double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms so plenty of space for everyone. Everything we needed was provided including a well appointed kitchen. We took our 1 year old so were pleased to be able to use a high chair and travel cot and save space in our car.
We loved watching the sunset from the dinning area each night and relaxing in the cosy lounge after our days exploring.
The property is a 5 min walk from the beach and a 10 mins stroll to the village centre so perfectly positioned. In the village there is a small shop for picking up necessities and a selection of places to eat and drink. We enjoyed meals at 'The Oyster Catcher' and 'Sandy's'.
My husband hired a wetsuit from the local surf shop and spent an afternoon bodyboarding. We also caught the boat to Puffin island from Beaumaris which we would thoroughly recommend to other guests.
In summary a perfect family friendly property, well located for a wonderful holiday and we would love to visit again.
Just returned home from another perfect stay at Ancones. Its a long drive for us (at least 6 hours) but so worth it. Rhosneiger/Angelsey/Wales have wonderful beaches and scenery and Ancones is a perfect base to explore. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners clearly take great pride to ensure their guests are well looked after and the service from Jamie at Rhosneigr Property was first class as usual. Would recommend Ancones for couples, families and groups of friends as 3 double (one with bunk beds) ensuite bedrooms are very well appointed.Rhosneigr has a range of restaurants and bars although we spent most of our evenings in admiring the wonderful sunsets from the cosy first floor living area overlooking the beach.
Our first time in Anglesy and it definitely won't be the last! Such a lovely relaxing break. Ancones was the perfect accommodation for us we absolutely loved it. The beach just a 5 minute stroll away, perfect! Attention to detail in each room. A beautifully presented property which left us wanting for nothing as absolutely everything we could have possibly needed was there.Thank you for the complimentary wine a lovely touch.
We will be visiting again in the not too distant future.
Love Anglsey and the accommodation was in a very small village with just a few cafe/restaurants within walking distance but plenty of places to visit by car. The kitchen had everything you could possibly want, pots, pans, crockery in abundance; ideal for families who plan on catering for themselves. All the furniture and accessories were to a high standard. The only slight draw back we found was lack of wardrobes in the downstairs bedrooms, plenty of draw space but only a few coat hangers on the back of the door.
