Attraction details
Owner description: Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens have undergone a spectacular transformation and are being restored to their former glory. First laid out in 1804 in the 'picturesque' style of Humphrey Repton, the famous Victorian landscape designer, the gardens had become derelict by 1996. There are 10 acres of gardens, included a 2 acre Walled Garden, fantastic valley gardens packed with unusual and interesting plants, flowering shrubs and trees; river and waterfalls. Home made cakes are served in the traditional Tea Room. Visitor Centre describing the history and restoration of the gardens. In 2015 open 12noon-5pm on Weds/Thurs/Suns in April; Tues/Weds/Thurs/Suns May-Sep; Weds/Suns in October. Pre-booked private group tours by appointment.

Hello, the red Jasper rocks in the river are a surprise. Some days they are difficult to see and on others are positively glowing - it all depends on the light. You must have seen them just at the perfect moment. Glad you liked everything you saw.

“These gardens should no longer be hidden!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

Anthony Tavernor and his team has been working on recovering the buildings, walled garden and valley garden for 15 years, and the result is an absolute triumph. The place is splendid in itself, but his tasteful revelation of what had been hidden through years of neglect and his attention to detail are noteworthy. A must for all those interested in gardens being renovated, and a great addition to Anglesea's attractions.

Thank you 'Dr J' for your comments. It's the little things that matter and whilst the garden is very large, there are plenty of little details that have been given much thought and attention. We're glad you noticed and enjoyed the quality of the work that has been done.

“Magical atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

The formal open layout of the walled garden is a real contract to the magical feel of the valley garden behind. Superb place to take time to wander slowly and absorb the atmosphere, and notice the planting. The small gardens around the cottages are delightful. The high standard of all the work that has been done, and the attention to detail is a pleasure to see. Hope to be able to go back again and see how it continues to develop, and mature.

Thank you for your review Caroline. Sometimes people visiting us think that the Walled Garden is all there is to see. Like you, they are surprised and delighted to discover the acres of carefully planted woodlands. We look forward to seeing you again.

We picked a super sunny day to view the gardens and waterfalls at their best. A real find. Lovely cream tea in a delightful setting. Only open on certain days/times so check before hand. Well worth a visit.

A sunny day makes the garden that bit more special, doesn't it? Thanks for your kind words of appreciation. We will be open on Wednesdays and Sundays (2-5pm) in September and October 2013. We have private group visits on other days through the season, but are looking into opening to the public for an additional day or two next year. Check our website for details.
