The standard of food and service here is excellent, but the simplicity of the hot rock menu is sublime. Thirty or more steaks over the years with not a morsel returned keeps me coming back, so much so, I know what I'm having to eat before I leave my house

Have been several times previously, latest visit with my wife son and grand-daughter on her 14th birthday. As on every occasion I have been here the staff were very pleasant and helpful, service was very good and food portions were generous and very well cooked. On the whole we enjoy our occasional visits to this pub/restaurant. There may have been a couple of minor things we could quibble about but nothing to spoil our enjoyment. Recently my other son and his family visited here and didn't have a very good experience, however when they explained to the manager their disappointment with their experience they received profuse apologies and were invited back for a complimentary family meal. Obviously the owners take seriously the importance of keeping customers happy and are willing to rectify any problems/disappointments encountered while dining at their establishment. You can't get fairer than that.

Went here as a group of five adults. Manager was pleasant enough and the beer was good but the service was unimpressive. Cod and chips was very tasty but served on a plate of mushy peas - nil for presentation. The plaice from the specials board was not very interesting and the steak was a bit gristly. A portion of bread and butter pudding for £4.50 was OTT. Verdict: overpriced and not worth coming back to.
