I have regularly visited this arts venue over the years and it has got better and better, with a much improved Blas Mwy Café, the Kyffin Williams wing and a truly spacious and ambient art gallery.
I am writing this particular review now as I have just returned from the latest exhibition by artist Glyn Davies, a phenomenal collection of stunning photographs featuring intriguing nudes in wild landscapes. For too long local galleries have perpetuated an endless conveyer belt of safe and pretty landscapes, but as always, Oriel Ynys Mon have had the confidence to hold very different and daring exhibitions by more adventurous creatives. Mr Davies' new show is just that. I have looked at the comments books at the shows over the years and sadly some visitors only want the pretty and safe and boring and some major name artists have been ridiculed and dismissed by those without any arts vocabulary or contemporary art appreciation, which is a great shame. Like the Mostyn Art Gallery in Llandudno, it's truly enlightening to see different contemporary artists being given the space and time they deserve, so top marks Oriel Ynys Môn.
