“Island Gem”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

We had taken advantage of an online offer for a one night stay including a 5 course dinner, full Welsh breakfast and Spa facilities. Although we have been visiting Anglesey for 35 years we had not been aware of this wonderful old manor house hotel.
the visit proved to be delight with wonderful staff to greet us, large bedrooms and bathrooms all very clean with toiletries in abundance, cosy bath robes and a good selection of teas, coffee and biscuits.
Relaxing in the library with a drink in front of the fire before dinner started what proved to be a very nice evening crowned by a fantastic 5 course dinner with a good selection for each course.
Breakfast the following morning proved to be just as good as diner the previous evening and set us up for our trip home through the Snowdonia National Park, we will return to this Island Gem.

Room Tip: There is no lift so if climbing stairs is difficult request a ground floor room when booking

A pleasant hotel set in wonderful surroundings.Off the beaten track but accessible for touring. Our room on the first floor was a good size and bathroom well appointed..My wife found difficulty going upstairs,we mentioned this to Reception and were told tha there was no downstairs room available that night but they would sort it in the morning. However we discovered another staircase which was manageable.Since we were only staying two nights we decided to stay upstairs rather than repacking and moving. The only criticism was a lack of drawer space, two of the drawers were filled with sparebedding.
We were booked for the gourmet package which proved to be a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and the staff most attentive.Little touches of attention such as being escorted from the bar to the dining room and provision of a small stool for my wife's handbag. My wife requested a cushion since the diningroom chair was a bit low, this was quickly brought and placed for her.The next night the cushions were fetched as we were being seated ,without having to ask.
A very pleasant experience in the Spa with efficient staff and facilities.

We shall certainly visit again!

Room Tip: Lower ground on garden side

I am very surprised at the reviews I have read as our stay (myself and my friend as my birthday present) was wonderful. Our room was excellent, spotless clean and we particulary loved the fact that we had a patio, despite the wet weather! The collection of toiletries supplied in the bathroom was great. In fact we really didn't need to take any of our own! The staff were very friendly and made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was wonderful, so much to choose from. We didn't eat in the dining room at night as our budget didn't stretch to that, but when we go again we will treat ourselves, hopefully in the New Year. My hot stone massage was wonderful and I look forward to having even more treatments when I next go. Overall a great stay and I would certainly recommend Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Country House Hotel and Spa. Thanks very much. Olive and Sandra from Cheshire.

Our room was small for two adults and a child. It was adequate but not very inspiring. The bathroom was small and sparse. The breakfast was fantastic! And the dining room lovely. The bistro bar was cold but the food was great. The staff were helpful. The spa treatments were good

Room Tip: Ask foe exactly what you want.

Thanks for your review. We do try and accommodate guests who have a child in larger rooms, this is only if we have the availability as we know the more people in the room the more space needed. Glad everything else was enjoyable and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Just returned from a two day spa break, not one to normally bother writing a review I felt the need to mention this one as it was probably one of the best stays I have experienced for a long long time, (and we do a lot of thes) where to start ! The old world charm of the hotel took you back to a time when style and comfort meant something and they delivered this by the bucket load, yet they have managed to combine this with a fantastic spa experience that brought you back to to 21 century,

We booked a break that included dinner in the Resturant and are were glad we did the food and service both at dinner and breakfast was superb, and I very strongly recommend that should you stay here you must dine. you will not be disappointed.

The staff went out of there way to please and as a registered blind person they accommodated me in a room with plenty of space to make movement easier both in the bedroom and bathroom not many hotels take that trouble.

So give it a try. I will most certainly return

We were disappointed. The entrance hall was barely warm and as we ascended the stairs it was colder and colder. Our room though comfortable was not really 5 star, quite small. the drawers full of spare bedding. The bathroom very ordinary.
The bar was freezing with an odd array of candles in the fireplace contributed to a mean, parsimonous atmosphere. The dining room service was just about adequate. The dining room very cold. Coffee in the library was just presented no enquiry as to wishes for hot milk, cold milk. Though partner was diabetic,no alterative offered to the "petit fours" which were all over sweet and looked very much like those available in M& S.
The breakfast buffet was extremely pedestrian.....tinned fruit and the poached egg done in vinegar presented sitting in vinegar was disgraceful. The second evening the menu was identical to first evening. The amuse bouche was again soup similar in texture to the previous night. We asked to see menu for third night to decide whether we should go home or stay. we were told it might but they were unsure "be tweeked" Anglesey was beautiful so we stayed. Hotel warmer. Menu slightly altered. Next morning better breakfast. Positives: Staff in reception friendly, those with labels were elsewhere friendly those without appeared to be generally uninterested. Our bags were carried to our room........we are in our 70s. The egg we returned was replaced by a well presented , fresh poached egg.....even the young waitress was impressed. Part of the food we had was excellent. Beautifully creamed leeks and the lamb on the last evening was excellent. My husband could have been offered more imaginative choices for his diabetic needs.......we had told the hotel before our arrival. There were very few people staying so the staff were not over worked. My comments after our stay to the manager elicited a very bored response of the non of our other clients have complained variety. This is the first complaint of its kind. No response to the comments re the egg and dirty crockery at breakfast or the coldness.

Room Tip: I believe the new ones are more spacious. Ask for bath with grab handles if you are a little older...

Room 6 with the four poster and whirlpool bath. It was peaceful and lovely. A few things were missing from the room which let the service down. You shouldn't have to ask for things like the tv remote, cups and bath robes when they are simple things or things they advertise as standard. The staff were nice. We loved the whirlpool bath.
