“The most uncomfortable and worn bed ever”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We stayed here for two nights recently while attending a wedding.

On arrival we had to wait a while to check in, and right from the start we got the impression that the locals are more welcome than the people staying in the accommodation.

Our room was at the back end of the tavern and seemed clean and spacious on arrival. However the bathroom smelt of sewage and there was dust on some surfaces. The worst thing about the room however was the bed. Immediately the springs were digging in your back and there is no way to improve the problem. We slept very badly, it is the most uncomfortable bed I have ever experienced.

The continental breakfast included is very sparse so we upgraded to the full breakfast. This consisted of the basics with a sausage that was mainly fat and grizzle. The staff also use the breakfast time to clean up the bar area so you feel rushed while they are stacking the tables and chairs and waving a hoover impatiently.

We asked for an iron in the evening and was told another room had it. No problem, could we get it in the morning? The man at the bar asked around and came back to tell us that they didn’t know which room had borrowed the iron.

We came back to the room on the second night to find the door unlocked. When we reported this in the morning we were told ‘Well Anglesea is very safe, nothing would have happened’. This may be the case however I think their reaction should have been slightly different, we were paying for a room where the door should have been locked. We also had all our valuables locked in a suitcase so we didn’t have to check if everything was still in the room.

All in all a not very pleasant stay, and we felt it was overpriced compared to other places we stayed in the region.

I love to stay here. The staff are really excellent, the food is substantial and the rooms are very good. I, too, find the beds a bit hard, but its a minor problem in the greater scheme of things. I find the parking somewhat tight, too, but work on the principle that there'll be elbow room in the morning. There are at least 2 rooms available on the ground floor - we stayed in one, as my husband has mobility issues and we don't do stairs unless absolutely necessary.

We always try to book this place when we're going to the ferry at Holyhead. Its only a short, easy drive to the port, but its far enough out to feel like a holiday in the country!

Thank you for your lovely review and for your third stay with us. We always try to accommodate our guest especially if they have special requests . We do in fact have three ground floor rooms and one of those has an adapted bathroom for those with mobility issues. Once again thank you for taking time to review us and we look forward to your fourth stay with us soon.

We have just stayed for two nights on a 'KGB' deal. What excellent value for money. Meal first night was included and so enjoyable we ate there second night as well. Staff friendly and rooms totally fine. If you want 5 star rooms, I suggest you pay 5 star prices. If however you want a good value break with lovely food, come here. Would totally recommend.

Did not stay here but went for a meal last Wednesday eve and it was great. Just normal pub food and the 7 year old had a kids meal of sausages beans and chips which were really nicely cooked and hot for a really good price. I had the curry which was hood and hot and my friend had chicken. It was something you would cook yourself but id you don't mind paying for a meal which is fresh and hot because you're too lazy try here! The only problem with this pub is the dark and little bit dismal surroundings. They really need a clean up and new upholstery. Its very tired looking and its one big reason why I don't go there more often although Im local and like eating out often. The waiter was superb, the one with the funny coloured hair, really nice and polite.

We booked a two night stay at the Tafarn Y Rhos pub with bed and breakfast apartments. We arrived to a very friendly and helpful welcome and indeed throughout all the staff were really great. The room was good with an on suite shower but I have to say the bed was very hard for my wife and myself's taste......other than that no problems, and was a good base for visiting the sites. The food was very good and the dinner time deal of 2 for £10.00 was good value. all in all I thought it was good value for money and at the end of the day perfect for us to travel out to visit the tourist attractions. Not good if you have any mobility issues as there are stairs only to the rooms, all situated on the first floor. Good parking with a decent overflow car park.

Room Tip: Not good for people with mobility issues as only stairs otherwise all rooms seen reasonable.

We chanced across the pub purely in looking for somewhere with Sky Sports and decided to eat there so we could watch the rugby! Family of 5 all very much enjoyed the food, the staff were very friendly and helpful, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble so much so we decided to return to try the Carvery on the Sunday.

Bizarre experience with some people stacking their plates so high you'd think they hadn't eaten for a week! But have to say that again the food and the staff were fabulous, good quality meat on the carvery with a vast selection of vegetables etc to enjoy with it. Puddings were great too, and all in all excellent value for money - would thoroughly recommend eating here - just try not to stare too much at the folk piling up their plates!!!!!

Can personally recommend the Apple & Rhubarb crumble with custard - thank you LOL!!!

Room Tip: Didn't stay over here, just ate in the restaurant a few times - excellent menu and service on al...

We stayed at the Tafarn Y Rhos on 30/5/2013 and ive got to say myself and my family very very happy.
We did read the reviews from other guests but still decided to book.
Our room was excellent and exactly what I would expect for the price we paid, the views were superb overlooking the countryside of Anglesey and Snowdonia mountain range.
The food was excellent and the staff very welcoming making time to chat and help.

Room Tip: we stayed in room no9 that had great views
