“Attractive period hotel set in own grounds, very clean and friendly”
Reviewed August 17, 2010

We really enjoyed our first visit to the hotel and will go back.

The Gadlys (including interior) is a typical Victorian period building. The hotel is very clean ( no dust in corners of the bedroom/bathroom ) and spacious. The owners are really friendly and helpful.

The grounds of the hotel and garden areas are attractive with a wonderful view of the beach - great for functions and kids.

Breakfast and evening meals in the hotel were great. No complaints at all and we hope the hotel does not change. We checked out the other hotels and this one is the best in the area.

Just to say that we had a triple celebration at the Gadlys in June this year, my 60th birthday, my husband's 65th birthday and our 30th Wedding Anniversary. There were 36 of us. Nothing was too much trouble for Paul, Patricia and their team who extended a very warm welcome to everyone. The food is excellent, the rooms are very comfortable, very clean and welcoming with fabulous views. There are plenty of lovely walks to do nearby, and there is a golf course not too far away either. All our friends and family are still talking about the weekend and what a fabulous time everyone enjoyed.

We visited for a meal with our friends, we found the house to be charming and the atmosphere relaxing. We were first shown to the bar were we ordered our drinks, the selection was good but one friend had to choose something other than what she wanted as they didnt have it there. We then sat in the bar/dining room in front of a roaring fire which was lovely! I noted it was a cosy room but really needed re-furbishment as the decor was from the 1970s.We sat by the window and ordered our meals, the lady of the establishment took our order and seemed pleasant but was fairly quiet and reserved with us.The food was very good and so was the service, though we were the only dinners there. We later went for coffee through to the lounge and this was very nice, top ups being offered regularly by the man of the house who enlightened us of the houses history-very interesting, the grounds are a delight, all in all a pleasant experience, we will go again!!

Stayed at the Gadlys Hotel with a friend (both of us on motorbikes) and had an excellent stay; the owners were very friendly and the building is fantastic. A really nice evening meal was served accompanied by a good selection of bottled real ales.
We had an excellent twin room with a huge bathroom and fantastic shower; everything was clean and tidy.
Can't understand some of the other comments, but I suppose how much the owners like you may depend on the sort of person you are.
Thoroughly recommended.

I haven't stayed at the Gadlys recently, I am planning a trip to Anglesey and thought I would check the reviews first to see if anything has changed since our last stay.

I first stayed at the Gadlys in 1997 whilst pregnant with my first child and had a wonderful, relaxing stay. I love the house and its beautiful surroundings. However, we returned in 2006 whilst I was pregnant with my third child. I knew that the hotel had new owners who had recently renovated the house. On our arrival the place did look beautiful and our rooms were fine. But as I have read in other reviews the lady owner, (who, by the way, is NOT Welsh, as stated by another reviewer), was extremely unwelcoming and unaccommodating. Our very presence at the hotel seemed to be a nuisance to her. We couldn't believe her behaviour, in fact it became the running joke for the duration of our stay and we still laugh about it now.

Jokes aside, it is a damn shame that this lovely place is being run in this way. I have learnt from the other reviews that the place seems run down at the moment, well I'm not surprised, how they ever have any return guests is beyond me.

We organised a short walking break for a group of 19 walkers. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Everyone in the group was happy with their room, food and the facilities of this hotel. It is a little run down and needs a facelift inside and out, particularly the bar, but it and the lounge area were comfortable. The food was excellent and the only downside for me was that the portions were too big! I think that Pat & Paul could have been more friendly, ( maybe we didn't spend enough money at the bar), and it would have been nice to have been told that there was a games room. Anyway, all of our group enjoyed the stay and said they they would be happy to pay a return visit.

at first sight you could be fooled into thinking that this was going to be a fantastic place to stay and get away from it all.
The location is beautiful and the veiws fantastic! However the veiw looking back at you from the bar is far from it! the owners did not even attempt a smile our whole break. Any request of ours was met with a snarl or a grump!
In fact the management seem to dislike guests.. i really do think they are in the wrong line of work. The managements poor level of customer service seems to be passed on to the rest of the staff aswell.. its such a shame that this fantastic place is so poorly run! they really did zap all the fun and joy out of anyone staying there, its their way or no way! so i hope the owners read reveiws like this and try to look at how they have let things go! and do better for the sake of the next visitors!
