“What a surprise!”
Reviewed September 18, 2010

I asked for a big room and we were given a suite overlooking the Menai Straight, big lounge, good sized bedroom and bathroom with shower over the bath. Tons of VERY hot water. We liked the little extras like a pull out drying line and free bottled water. Usual toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. All the staff were pleasant and helpful and our dog was made most welcome. We ate in both the restaurant and the Bistro, portions were a bit large for us but the quality was OK. We loved the Coffee Shop which served all day. Not many hotels have night staff, a reassuring bonus. Car park very small but people double parked and moved when needed. Large pay and display close by.
We went sightseeing all over the island. So much to see - something for everyone with beautiful beaches, museums, bird life, industrial heritage and of course cafes and pubs serving local produce.

Spent two nights at the hotel. There were weddings on both nights, which meant it was very noisy until the early hours. The car park is very small and the hotel does not seem to manage where guests can park. With the weddings it meant that we could not get access to our car for most of our stay. Breakfast was mediocre so ate at another hotel in the evenings (Bishopgate Hotel – very good). Rooms are dated and in urgent need of a re-furb. I've stayed at a number of other Best Western Hotels, which are generally ok. The Bulckley falls well below that standard.

We stayed at this hotel as we were attending a wedding there. The hotel is in a lovely location looking out over the Menai Straits. We had asked for a sea-view room, which cost extra, & were given room 206 on the 2nd floor. The room was very small & poorly appointed. The decor was very tired & paint was peeling badly on the window frame. There was a cupboard which had held a fridge but this was empty. The shower was abysmal & was either boiling hot or freezing cold!
The breakfast choice & quality was poor & overall we thought that the hotel was very poor value for money.

We did not stay at this hotel but intended to eat there on our first night in Beaumaris. We bought two rounds of drinks and after the second round of drinks, my son returned from the bar saying that the service had not been polite or welcoming (on either occasion) and the member of staff concerned clearly resented being asked any questions - or even serving! My son is a relaxed, easy-going person and would not usually complain but he did so and was met with assurances that it would be passed on - this I doubted. The hotel lost the chance of a meal for four - Best Western must be doing well to adopt such a cavalier approach to their potential customers. A disappointing start to the stay (the hotel had looked so promising). It was my son's first visit to the UK after 6 years in Australia - a great welcome back.

We arrived at the hotel around 3 pm, first impressions from the out side were great, but the car park seemed a little cramp to say there are 120 rooms. The hotel is tired and in need of uplift, the hotel staffs was very good and it is clean, the food and service in the restaurant was extremely good, it’s like being in a 5 star I imagin, We are just about to go for breakfast and we hope it’s just as good! The breakfast was wonderful, help your self to cornflakes, and rice Crispi’s, fruit juice, prunes, grapefruit or yogurt. Then its tea or coffee followed by toast brown or white or both, then a choice of full English breakfast or poached or scrambled egg on toast, or a combination of what you feel like.

After breakfast you can start to plan your day, everything is so easy to get too, puffin island red wharf bay are a small drive away, they bring so many good memories from my childhood, or you can just chill out in beaumaris walking down the beach crabbing of the pier with the kids or just sitting by the sea with a glass or two of wine.

Evening Meal,

Once again the service was excellent; the food was hot and great. We had a starter of scolpes in garlic butter and the main course of steak medium rare with seasonal veg…Karen had chicken breast in Palma ham in stilton sauce with seasonal veg, and then for afters,

I had sticky toffee pudding, it was so sweet but so nice, (your on holiday I found myself saying eat It.!!) Karen had lemon meringue roulade, now she want’s to make it…

Paul and the girls in the hotel are fantastic and full of local knowledge. They make you feel like you have known them all your life.

Downside
They do have a lot of weddings, and they do go on until late, i.e. all bloody night. Lol But hey you only get married once in your life time so what the heck, the seagull never stop squawking but that what the seaside is all about.

We have had great 3 day’s going around the all the places I went to as a kid, and would definitely come back to this hotel, and will recommend to our friends…

Absolutely Knackered from all the fresh air and walking need a holiday……. Tim Karen…….Derby…..

We paid £115 for a double room with panoramic views. Pity the window was small. The room was very shabby, tired and old fashioned, Furniture was old fashioned poor quality, boarding house type. Bathroom was in need of refurbishing, shower rail was chained to the ceiling - original! Dining Room was depressing, dark, dingy. Furniture was very badly worn seat upholstery on chairs, tables knocked badly. Breakfast was very substandard, food tasteless. After first morning we noticed many guests declined when asked "would you like something cooked?". This room was also used as evening restaurant, so we didnt try it. Bistro was extraordary, we asked for a glass of wine and were presented with 2 glasses and 2 small bottles! Had a starter to share, but no individual plates, when requested waiter returned with 2 saucers! My husband was served with main meal - mine came 5 mins later, with no apology. Other guests were requesting cutlery which should have been on the table, this was given with no apology. Best Western should really appraise this place as it is an extraordinary Victorian building which needs closing and thoroughly renovating - then they can charge £115 for a room!!!
