“Good stay to unplug”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2014 via mobile

I stayed in room 114 facing the main street. A decent sized room for one person. Had some issue connecting with Wi-Fi. The woman at reception was very helpful by offering to reset the router, which seem to solve the issue. However, signal was very poor in the room, even though more than one connection was available. Washroom water pressure was very good. Breakfast buffet-style was well appointed. My stay was on a Sunday night. There were quite a few people being very loud on the street below at a very late hour. Hope this is not usual for the town. Would stay again if Wi-Fi was not a concern and could get a quieter room.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry that you had problems with our
WI-FI. We have had new routers installed to try and boost the internet signal however the thickness of the walls are still proving a little difficult, I am glad that reception were able to help on this occasion. We hope we are able to welcome you again to the hotel please note when making your booking that WI-FI is necessary for your stay and our team will try and ensure a room with a strong internet signal.

I was with a large party of Ramblers who stayed at the Bulkeley Hotel over the May day holiday weekend. The Restaurant food was wonderful and they also served excellent gluten free and vegetarian meals. Breakfasts were self service - buffet style with a good selection of fruit, cereals and cooked food. The staff were polite, efficient and very approachable. The Bulkeley is an old comfortable traditional Hotel and the decor and rooms reflect this, being updated on a gradual basis. Our room was spacious clean and well furnished, and the beds were very comfortable. Our bathroom had not been refurbished but was perfectly adequate for our needs, and clean towels and room service were provided daily. There was a separate Bistro and tea room which we did not need to use, and the Hotel is in an excellent location - the centre of the town with wonderful views of Snowdon, and the Menai Strait. As a party we agreed that our stay had been very enjoyable, and that the atmosphere in the Hotel had been friendly and welcoming. Our walking on the Island was superb, and returning to the hotel for a great meal, glass of wine and a relaxing time in the lounge rounded off our trip perfectly.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we appreciate all feedback. Thank you for mentioning the dietary requirements our chefs are very happy to ensure that all guests have a varied choice of menu and given enough notice we can ensure that this is carried throughout the entire stay. As you noticed we are in an ongoing refurbishment programme which does take time, eventually we would like all bathrooms and bedrooms to be off a similar standard and we will continue to work towards this. It was a pleasure to have your group at the hotel and we hope that we can welcome you back again soon.

Just got back from two nights staying Good Friday and Saturday night. The best thing about the hotel is the location and it is quite pleasant sitting outside having a drink overlooking the Menai Straits. The second good thing was the man behind reception who was very helpful giving us a tip for a good restaurant for dinner. Harry's Bistro a couple of miles up the road, fantastic food with fantastic service.
Everything else about this hotel is mediocre at best. We were very disappointed with our room 214 and if we had not paid in advance we would have walked out and gone elsewhere. We asked for a room with a view but instead got room 214 with a view of the fire escape. It was small, tatty and the bathroom was obviously built for a 5 year old child as an adult could not possibly fit in the bath. It is an absolute disgrace that the hotel charged £130.00 per night for this room. Overall the hotel looks tatty and in need of a good clean and updating. Breakfast was buffet style and just average. The hotel seemed understaffed with the breakfast staff looking a little stressed. It was difficult to order a cup of tea. The lady at the next table commented that you get better service at a motorway service station!
Such a shame as beautiful location. Perhaps we would have felt different if in a seaview room but somehow I still think the furnishings etc would have been in need of updating.
The room was worth £50 to £75 at best even with it being Easter weekend.
Left feeling totally ripped off.
We were disturbed on the Saturday night by a man yelling down the hallway trying to find his friend. The hotel staff did quiet them down after hotel guests complained.

Room Tip: If you do not get a seaview then don't stay at this hotel. Obviously stay away from room 214!

We stayed here for a weekend in a sea view room with breakfast.
The room was big enough, with all you need, but the decor is old. The bathroom is 1980s with a combined shower / tap. It worked well enough. If you want a modern hotel this is not for you, but if you want a comfortable base then it's perfect. Views are stunning. Customer service is excellent. Breakfast is the best I've had in any hotel. Bistro was well priced and the food tasty and fresh.

My wife recently booked us in at this hotel for a surprise trip. We stayed at the hotel for two nights and I can honestly say that everything here was perfect in all respects. When we arrived the reception staff were welcoming and helpful and the room was lovely. My wife had paid a little extra for a room with a sea view and I must say, it was worth it. From the large room window we looked out across the Menai Straights to the mountains of Snowdonia beyond. The bed was large and comfortable and the room clean and well kept. So many large, old hotels these days are in need of some upgrading but the Bulkeley was exceptionally well-maintained with a lovely atmosphere and bags of character. We loved Beaumaris itself and the people were extremely friendly. We ate in the bistro in the hotel and again the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was good. Breakfast too was of good quality and the staff pleasant and cheerful. The following night we arrived back at the hotel in the early hours of the morning after a day trip to Dublin and the large car park at the hotel was full. However, the young man on reception was extremely helpful and sorted out a parking space for me by offering to move the hotel van if anyone needed to get out. We had a fantastic couple of days and hope to return to Anglesey and The Bulkeley soon.

Room Tip: We were in Room 202. Very comfortable and a great view.

I booked this hotel in advance for a wedding of a very good friend of mine. Unfortunately three days before the wedding I was involved in quite a serious motorbike accident and would not of been well enough to travel the 2 and a half hours to the hotel and being up all day at the wedding just wouldn't of happened.
I rang the hotel two days before my stay and explained the situation and obviously there was no way I'd be able to get there in my current condition. The lady I spoke to was very unsympathetic and said the booking was non refundable and I had to use the room, I explained this was obviously an unforeseen accident and had intended to stay. Was there anything they could do? "No, it's not our issue" and in her own words "whether you stay or not means nothing to us because were already a winner as we have your money!" I was shocked at her attitude and disappointed and a human beings lack of respect for another. I would never stay here and never expect to be talked to in such a disgusting manner, I'm glad we didn't stay if this was the level of customer service this hotel offers!
