Found this on a last minute site, what a find, views are beautiful and we was very well looked after. There's a new head chef and the food was beautiful! Rooms were clean and the owners were very friendly, would not hesitate to book and return, I always find something to moan about, but not here!

Thanks for your honest comments and pleased you felt that you had nothing to complain about.
Our chefs try really hard to keep to the high standards they themselves have set.
Hope to see you soon.

Enjoyed a 1 night stay on 31st August with the wife and youngster. From booking the room to departing on Sunday morning, we were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. On arrival we were shown to our room, which whilst basic, was very clean, good size for the three of us and a stunning view of the bay. When we suggested that we would like to take evening meal, we were offered a special table within the games room, as the reminder of the restaurant was full, a further good sign for me. The food and service were excellent, both the dinner and the breakfast the following morning.
Overall a very pleasurable experience and whilst I'm not sure when we will be back in Anglesey, when we are we will certainly seek out the Trecastell again.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the views from our room were great. The breakfast at the hotel is fantastic, with plenty of choice and would appear to be cooked to order. We also ate at the hotel for most evenings and yes, I have to say, it gets very busy so be prepared to wait, but it is worth it. The food is excellant!. All the staff are very attentive and if you want something just ask. We would like to wish Gill and her team all the very best with their plans for the hotel and we will be back.

Room Tip: We had room 9 on the top floor which was smallish, but adequate and had a good view of the bay.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We now have 3 executive rooms with room 3 added to rooms 5 and 14. These all have stunning views even better than room 9 so try one of these for your next visit. Thanks also for the comments on the food as our chefs are always working hard to keep the highest standards with freshly cooked locally sourced ingredients where possible which does take a little longer to prepare rather than micro dinners at other places.
Hope to see you again soon.

There are very few hotels that I feel compelled to write a review about, especially on the evening after getting home. The Trecastell Hotel, however, deserves this special mention.

Yes some of the rooms are desperately in need of a facelift (don't we all after years of neglect?) but the work has started and there are already signs of Gill's influence. In Room 14 we had the most glorious of sea views, soft sheets and a great comfy bed ! Now that is something to go back for.

Not to mention the really good food (we had a meal there every night even though we had planned to eat out) and exceptional service.

Clearly this is going to be an outstanding hotel and we wish Gill and her staff all the best.

Room Tip: Room 14 has the best view, in what's going to be the best hotel on the island.

Very pleased you enjoyed your stay. As you have noticed from previous reviews we have not been here long and hopefully during this winter we will be able to improve the rooms still further with the downstairs being tackled very soon. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will the Trecastell be fully finished for a while yet. We hope should you return again that you will be able to see the changes soon to be made and enjoy more good food and service.

We stayed one night with our County Boys team. The rooms were dated but very clean with fresh smelling bedding. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our meal Yes we did wait a long time for the food to arrive but the hotel was full and extremely busy.We asked for an early breakfast 6-45 am because the boys had an early tee time at Bull Bay Golf Club. they said it was no problem and we all had a lovely freshly cooked english breakfast with all the trimmings.the new owners are working very hard to make everyone welcome .We all enjoyed our stay and I am sure when all the alterations are made this will be one of the best hotels on Anglesey.

Room Tip: pick a sea view as the view is fantastic

Thanks for your comments and hope you will return next time you are in the area.
As you have noticed we are full for meals most nights and even if you are booking to stay it is advisable to book your first nights meal in advance to ensure your meal when you want it.

We've just spent a delightful weekend at the Trecastell. The view from the bay of the executive suite across the sea and coast is panoramic, the bed exceptionally comfortable and the breakfast was a high standard. The atmosphere at the hotel is very convivial, assisted by the friendliness of the staff and there are lots of nice touches to the décor that make it interesting. I've just read the previous poor review and wonder how we could have been staying in the same hotel on the same weekend and reached such different conclusions. We loved everything about it, and will definitely be going back!

We are pleased you enjoyed our hotel. It is difficult to please everyone as someone can always find fault anywhere if they want to. Our hotel is not perfect but we can ensure that the parts that are our control can be of the highest standard.
Thank you for your review and look forward to a return visit from you.

I always check out TripAdvisor before booking hotels, and did so on this occasion. But having read all the positive TripAdvisor reviews of this hotel, I can't believe I stayed in the same place as everyone else??!!

We'd booked a double room for one night via the hotel's website, which actually made the hotel look much better than it is. First impressions count, and when we pulled up in the car park the hotel initially looked ok from the outside. However, on entering the hotel we were greeted by the smell of stale deep-fryer fat as soon as we stepped into the place - this immediately set off warning bells for me :( Further worries when we were shown to Reception to check in - the Reception office looked like a junk room, piles of clothes and clutter everywhere. We were shown up to our room, which was very dated and in need of redecoration - peeling paint on the skirting board, stained carpet, marks on the walls, condensation in the double glazing, thin lime-green (!) curtains, mouldy trim on the shower screen, hairs on the bathroom floor, etc. There was a persisting strong smell of sickly air freshener on the landing outside our room - horrible! When we saw our room and ensuite, we were disappointed to say the least, and did consider moving on to another hotel - but it was late in the day and we'd already paid for the room when booking via the website so we decided to stay put, say nothing and just grin and bear it.

We spent very little time in the hotel, we went out for the evening and just used the hotel as somewhere to sleep - and although we did sleep peacefully and the bed was clean and comfortable, we felt that £75 for this rather tatty double room was a bit steep when compared with the much higher levels of comfort we'd received for similar money in other B&Bs throughout Mid and North Wales.

Breakfast the following morning was slightly chaotic - the lady serving got several orders wrong and seemed to be rushing about the place - guests were kept waiting ages for their cooked breakfasts, and tables were left uncleared - it felt like there should have been more staff on duty to cook and serve breakfast. When the cooked breakfast finally arrived, it seemed like it had been cooked long before and kept hot in the oven or on a hotplate - so I'm not sure what the delay was. (Service was so slow you'd have thought that each cooked breakfast was cooked to order from scratch - but this was clearly not the case).

I understand from the comments of other reviewers that the new managers have only recently taken over - and while allowances could be made for this, I do feel they need to 'up their game'. The whole hotel is in need of a makeover, and I appreciate that this takes time and money - but perhaps it would have been better to completely refurbish just a few bedrooms to a higher standard and utilise these to begin with, so that they might attract some repeat trade? I don't know what the other bedrooms were like, but ours was certainly under par - as were the other areas of the hotel that we saw.

I wish the new managers well - I think they've got their work cut out to turn this hotel around - but I'm afraid nothing would entice me to return to this hotel in its current state - very sorry.

Thank you for your frank comments on our hotel. It is a pity that you didn't say anything to us before you left as we may have been able to deal with certain issues such as the air freshener or the other smells that offended you for instance. As you have rightly stated we have been at the hotel for only 3 months and have made as many changes and improvements as possible in the short time we have had available and with having been full up for the last 9 weeks. Your review seems out of context with all our other reviews and have had many visitors return more than once as they have so enjoyed their stay. The hotel has been rated as a 2* and the prices reflect that and we will be looking for a higher star rating when the work is complete but we have had mostly 5* reviews on our 2* hotel.
The reason why there was a wait for breakfast is because they are all cooked to order as you guessed and not kept warm in the kitchen and dished out buffet style. it seems strange that as your experience was so bad for your one night that others staying at the same time haven't made similar comments.
The brewery is just starting to commence work on the hotel and we should see more improvements soon. We hope that you may consider another visit so that you can enjoy our hotel as much as everyone else seems to.
