“Lovely, even in mid-Winter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

It was rather wet the day we visited, but we were able to pay winter rates (£2 each) and still had a lovely walk around the village and a very enjoyable walk around the headland, onto the beach, and through the forest, taking in the dog cemetery along the way.

“Weird”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

Good - interesting place, fabulous location and views, excellent staff, who were helpful and friendly. Not so good - whole place slightly weird, a bit grubby and shabby, and I kept wondering what was the point. I think I was hoping for a magical, other-worldly experience, and it was a bit of a let-down. In retrospect, I am glad all the accommodation was fully-booked when I phoned, as after two hours we had seen all we wanted to see, and three days there would have been a long, long time. Instead, we stayed at a hotel nearby and had a great time exploring Snowdonia, after we had 'done' Portmeirion on the first morning. I'm glad we went, but I can't hide that I was a little disappointed.

Tip 1: disabled-friendly, with wheelchair access everywhere and a minibus on demand, which we thankfully didn't need.

Tip 2: book online for £2, rather than pay £10 at the gate.

“Great Stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

We (2 adults and a 14 year old) have just come back from a KGB deal, 2 nights with breakfast evening meal on the first night for £180.
We stayed at Salutation 2 rooms which were very comfortable and clean (maybe a SADDO trip advisor contributor could find some faults?). We had our evening meal at the castle and it was lovely, you get collected from your room and driven to the castle and returned when you are finished. The breakfasts were in the hotel, again lovely food and great service.
The "village" itself was a bit smaller than we thought but we were not dissapointed, I walked the gardens (quite hilly) and saw some stunning views from the top.
If I was going there for the day £10 each would seem a bit steep(?) but we had a great time.

p.s: It was nice and quiet when we went 19th-21st February and were very lucky with the weather, we were told that in the summer it can get VERY busy!

“A great visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

Best known to older people for being the backdrop to the cult TV series Prisoner, the village is a large film set and hotel. All the buildings where built as one unit in Italian style and are still looking well maintained. The sunny weather at the time of our visit helped to make a pleasant time.
staff where friendly and helpful.
