Having dined here before we had high hopes. The set menu, although a good price, was too fussy and we had the same menu two nights running. A fellow diner described his meal as inventive and creative which, sums up over fussy and pretty on a plate but hardly a good meal. An extensive and extremely expensive wine list, and as one wine 'snob' (for the want of a better word) could only describe the wine he ordered as 'quaffable'. My first cooked breakfast was dry as if it had been under hot lights for a while, although my husband had no complaints about his. Our second breakfast of smoked haddock and poached egg was delicious and I would highly recommend.
The staff and service though were excellent, attentive and polite.

We had a young child with us and they were considerate to other guests to keep us out of the way at both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was excellent - menu included Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon etc etc. Poached eggs were perfect. Evening meal - three courses at £30 was excellent value and delicious. Staff were efficient and attentive. They sorted out a meal for the child when there wasn't a suitable kids menu. Not really recommended for kids - which is a good thing normally!

The food was gourmet standard. The staff made us feel that they were there to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Nothing was too much trouble.

Last week was our third time back to what we thought was a wonderful place for my birthday treat. How disappointed we both were. We were told "they no longer do lunches" but if we wanted a table in the restaurant they would provide a "snack" -- we would have been the only ones there...... We then went to the Castle Restaurant and had a reasonable lunch.
The whole place seemed run down and abandoned. Admittedly it was out of season but it was last time also when we had a wonderful meal. (my birthday date doesn't change)
So So disappointed from what was, and still could be, such a memorable visit.
