“Lovely food in lovely surroundings”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

We've eaten at the Portmeirion hotel in the village, and at its best it can be superb, but have never tried its sister hotel just outside the village. It's an imposing building and the interior is amazing. The lunch menu was varied and very reasonably priced, and the service was first class. The food when it arrived was all that we could have hoped for, and the portions were generous. Our fellow diners all commented favourably on their food. And as a bonus, the price of a two course lunch ( our bill came to £28 ) gets you into the village ( normal admission £10 each ) for free, and if you visit Clough Williams Ellis family home at Plas Brondanw ( lovely gardens, views and cafe ) you get in for £2 instead of £4. Almost the legendary free lunch.

“Lovely setting, great food”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

The views from the windows are equaled by the menu and the service. If you have a two course lunch here, you also get complimentary tickets to Portmeirion and there is a free minibus to drop you at the entrance.

“Nice atmosphere disappointing food”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

The atmosphere here is relaxed and pleasant but the meal was disappointing. The choice is limited and the food was less than enjoyable with the strong flavours of the accompaniments drowning the main item. The chef here is definitely inferior to the one at the Portmeirion Hotel.

“MORE ATTENTION, DETAIL AND ELEGANCE REQUIRED”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

My wife and I had lunch on a Sunday and I had gammon. Unfortunately, the mashed potato was dry and tasteless and the salad was taken out of the package and place on the plate without any dressing. Frank, the head waiter asked us if we enjoyed the meal, I told him that I did not but he did not have the decency or professionalism to ask me why I was not satisfied with the meal.

How did this place manage to get a Rosette by the AA (by the way, they need to check the spelling). All in all, a sad and expensive experience. I could have cooked a better meal myself.
