Booked a room (room 4) in the main hotel to enjoy the view and we were not disappointed - we watched Goosanders feeding from our four poster bed (did not think that I would ever write that!). We were so impressed by the food that we ate once in the restaurant and twice in the Dresser Bar and the food was excellent and great value every time. The Guest Lounge with open fire was very comfortable and the view from the restaurant at breakfast was excellent. The staff were attentive (without being pushy) and made us feel very welcome. The Cellar Bar is separate to the main hotel and always seemed busy catering for the cyclists and walkers. A great location and top service; we will return.

Room Tip: At busy times book your table in the restaurant early.

Went downstairs for a meal, nowhere else about to be honest as we were staying just up the road. The bar was ok by the fire but freezing in the other room! Sticky tables are a particular issue with me and they were in abundance here. The menus were grubby photo-copied affairs plonked on the bar but just about readable. The beer was good (Snowdonia Ale) and, to be fair, the food that came was very nice. There was certainly plenty of it but the quality was reasonable too. Fantastic location but at this time of year, a few more coals on the fire would have been good. Doesn't help having to go outside to the toilet which (incidentally) seemed to be where the food came from - outside, not the toilet before anyone asks!

Overall I would probably go back if hungry but may look further afield for alternatives first.

I have to make the time to review the wonderful food served of late, at the George III hotel in Penmaenpool, Dolgellau, north Wales.

Last week our party of 3, ate at the George on 3 separate evenings, ordering a variety of dishes between us. On all occasions, the food was excellent. Tasting flavoursome and presented well, and the portions are such good value for money. I have eaten in a number of establishments in and around Dolgellau, but George III wins 'hands down' for lovely personal service by good humoured staff, and tasty flavoursome food, served hot and with lovely selection of vegetables (depending on the dish). Well done George III and compliments to your chef !!!

We stayed here for my Husbands 50th birthday we had a relaxing weekend in fabulous surroundings.
The staff are both obliging and freindly and the food was great too.
We stayed in the suite which was well worth the extra money.
We would highly recommend this hotel for both food and accommodation we had a great weekend

The location of this hotel was amazing with stunning views of the estuary. The food was also of a high standard both breakfast and the evening meal. Staff were very attentive though service was slow at certain times of the day as there seemed to be a lack of staff. The bedroom was lovely but it would have been helpful to know that the fire exit for our floor was through our bedroom. we would remember this at our next visit and request not to have room 5. The shower didn't work properly and our request for it to be attended to went unheard. However, returning from a long walk and sitting by the wonderful fire in the lounge with a long drink was great and we would go back again.
