Description: Chris & Bronwyn offer you a very warm welcome to their 18th century country inn and restaurant serving the very best in Welsh & local produce. With a wood burning fire, a great selection of wines and friendly service. Our a la carte menu can be served in our cosy restaurant, in our dog friendly bar, or our conservatory with panoramic views of the beautiful Wye Valley.

I have been to the Inn at Penallt at least 8 times now and the food is always of a high standard. The menu changes and the food is always fresh and delicious. The service is equally good, we dropped by on a Saturday evening having not booked and although it was busy they fitted us in and gave us complimentary olives, bread and oil for the little extra time we had to wait. A little gem

We have only had lunch in the bar previously, but decided to try an evening meal in the restaurant,
Myself and my husband both had the sea bass, which was really really good. The portion was 2 good size fillets (most places you only get one). It came in a lovely Biere blanc sauce. Washed down with a nice bottle of Gavi. Only downside to a really mice meal was that We ate early, and restaurant was very quiet so not a lot of atmosphere, and courses came out very quick. Also drinks that we paid for at the bar were added to our restaurant bill. This was sorted straight away as as soon as we pointed this out. Quite a drive for us to get to so maybe it will be spring before we go back. Beautiful views from conservatory.

What could be better than a circular walk from this inn down to the River Wye and back round by the village church, with it's super views over the valley! Now you have the appetite, settle down for a delicious meal, and sample the local beers or ciders in a relaxed atmosphere of friendly, helpful staff. You won't be disappointed and you will begin planning your next visit, possibly with an overnight stay. The menu changes regularly and is plentiful! Note: I suggest you go for the walk prior to eating, as the thought of the walk afterwards doesn't appeal!

After reading reviews we decided to make a booking for an evening whilst staying in Monmouth. It was quite an experience in finding this delightful looking establishment. We were given a warm welcome when we stepped inside by the very friendly staff. Although the food was good, I can not say it was value for money, especially when we asked what the were vegetable to be told "carrots". Please visit this establishment, enjoy what can only be said is an average meal, but choose the £10.00 night.

Dear Kevin, many thanks for taking the time to visit us at The Inn. Jackie & I are delighted you enjoyed the welcome, service & atmosphere but obviously disappointed that the food wasn’t to your liking. We are very committed to providing value in everything we offer but equally committed to sourcing and using quality, fresh produce, often from small local suppliers.
We do realise that for a number of diner’s extensive choice and low cost menus are of significant importance. Whilst we cannot compete with that style of pub/restaurant, our chefs prepare everything from scratch in our kitchens including stocks, soups, sauces, bread & ice creams, we always look to offer value and choice, our menus include a minimum of 6 starter & 7 main courses and we are more than happy to amalgamate dishes to suit guest’s preferences.
Because we use fresh produce we do have a smaller selection of items readily available however your comment regarding carrots is perhaps a little misleading. All our dishes are complete, where a dish would naturally include a vegetable this is served with the meal chosen. In addition we serve at least one other fresh vegetable dish for all guests to enjoy. This may include, seasonal mixed vegetables, cauliflower with a Per Las sauce, creamed cabbage or on this occasion buttered new season carrots with fresh parsley. All vegetables served are included in the price of the dish and not served as optional extras at a further cost as is so often the case.
Once again thank you for visiting us we are genuinely disappointed that we were not able to provide what you were looking for,
Kind regards Andrew
