“Grubby, dusty, broken shower”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

Room was dusty, carpet not hoovered. TV not tuned properly. Bathmat had brown stains on it. The room's sash window, with access to a flat roof next to a fire escape, was left open after room cleaned, with all my things in the room.

Shower was either scolding hot or freezing cold. They knew it wasn't working properly because someone had drawn arrows on the controls to show where the dials should point. I stayed for 2 nights and was told, when I reported the shower after the first night, that someone would be called to fix it. Then told later that someone had just arrived and would be going straight up (about 5pm as I was going out). Next day, shower the same.

Very poor, no one cares.

My work demand quality and so do I when it comes to accommodation, Great pub, great hotel, great staff, great food, I've stopped in lots of hotels etc in lots of verious places with my work and usually for long periods of time, i.e. 12 month plus, so I want and demand to be comfortable and I did try other hotels before the punch house but 4 nights per week for the last 9 months I've been staying at the punch house and I intend to be here for at least the next 6 months.

This hotel was booked for 12 golfers for a weeks golf and a nice place to stay through welsh golf holidays, the accomodation was very poor indeed, there were 3 single beds to each of the rooms we had, no wardrobe, no drawer space, no chair just the 3 beds, and a 4ft hanging rail for our clothes and a portable TV!!!! The front of house staff were very helpful and friendly but unfortunately the chef had a serious attitude problem which caused our group to eat and drink elsewhere.. If you are looking for somewhere to eat whilst staying in the area you must try the Robin Hood which was very good indeed.

My partner and I have stayed at the Punch House once a year for several years. We have always had an enjoyable stay in what was a basic but good quality, clean hotel with plain but excellent food.

What a disappointment this year! Has the management changed? The only good thing remaining is the friendly and helpful front of house staff, obviously working against all odds to try and make guests comfortable and welcome.

We had supper on the evening we arrived. Dreadful food which had obviously been cooked hours before and warmed up before serving - just like the dinner my mother used to serve up to my father when he had stayed in the pub for too long. Quite disgusting.

The room - this has always been clean and well prepared in previous years. This time, absolutely filfthy, thick layer of dust over the only chair in the room clean enough to sit on - if you don't mind dust. the other two were so dirty and greasy it was impossible to see the pattern of the upholstery fabric. A used towell over the bath, and someone else's hair in the bath. No soap in soap dispenser.

Had to go down to the bar to report no TV remote. Very pleasant staff member came up and showed us how to change channels on the TV, with a pen in the absence of a remote.

Two cups but only one saucer on breakfast tray. Only one sachet of coffee. Brown sugar so old it was rock hard. Opened drawer in hope of finding replenishments, only to find the drawer full of biscuit crumbs.

Worst of all, the absolute horror of turning the bed down to find someone else's mascara smudges on the bed linen - used sheets on the bed.

Breakfast - a highlight in previous years, this time did not bother - two staff members doing their best to feed a large party of golfers; I don't mind waiting for a freshly cooked traditional breakfast, but there was no coffee, no coffee cups, the fruit juice jugs were empty, flies buzzing around, God help us.

Never again.
