“DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Firstly after four hours on the water after a fantastic Canoeing trip we wanted to have a nice warm shower/bath before getting ready to go out.
After having to clean the bath as it was covered in tiny black insects there was no hot water even after running the tap for 10 minutes.
So we decided to order some food to warm us up. I ordered the Chorizo and Prawn pasta which was horrific quite frankly.
On returning from our night out in town and after a full day of activities we just wanted to retire to a comfortable bed, no luck there A. the heating we had put on earlier had failed to come on and B. the beds were very very uncomfortable with springs poking into our backs.
In the morning I walked into the bathroom to find the black insects were back with a vengance so needless to say we packed up and left.
When handing in our keys I made the gentleman aware of the insect infestation but he really didnt seem to care.
I am currently writing a letter of complaint and I hope I receive my £40 back as it was no where near worth the money!!
I will not be staying there again!!

I stay in loads of hotels accross the country due to my occupation and this is by far the worse experience! Window didn't close, so it was freezing, radiator didn't work, shower was old and filthy, live music on till gone 12am when I got told it ended at 11, tv had hardly any channels and no remote, walls so thin I could here the guy next to me snoring, creaky floors, more noise, woke up really early after struggling to go to sleep with the springs of the mattress digging into me, lining wasn't the cleanest either. Overall I will avoid returning, I'm just grateful it was only for one night.

We had asked and paid for adjoining rooms, but were advised nonchalantly on check in that this was no longer the case, our rooms were now a corridors length apart, not helpful with three small children. We opted to all stay in one room, it was late an we were all tired, what we wanted to do was walk away.. First inspection revealed that the TV did not work the carpet was filthy it being thick with dust around the edges, and the the shower tray was being used to breed a black colored mold. The decor was past tired, several holes in the walls offered protruding rawl plugs, and the sash window fell apart when it was moved. What is very sad is that with some effort and care this could be a nice little place to stay. By contrast we stayed at the Millingbrook Lodge on our trip down some days before, paid the same money and were met with one of the best family rooms we've ever stayed in. So obviously its not a case of you get what you pay for, its a case of simply not caring.

Refreshing change after travelodge and premier inn stays. An old fashioned inn right at the centre of town. All the essentials. Clean bed, comfortable enough, en suite with hot shower . Other reviews have criticised food but why eat there with such a choice around town and a very nearby Wetherspoons.

basic hygene/decor in the bathroom would not really cost too much to rectify. Floor grubby, shower silicone poor and tiles cracked. Noisy late at night, but then the location is in the middle of town. Linen really white and clean. Bedding inside umm well!

Loads of character, in the pub, great if you are interested in local history.

Stayed here last minute on the 18th of August 2012. We weren't expecting much for £40 per room for the night. Rightly so, the room was tired and a little creepy looking with old instrument type things on the walls. Upon arriving back around midnight we settled down for the night, unprepared for the noise that would ensue until 3:30am. As it's right in the town centre, it was literally like trying to sleep in the middle of a crowded pub. Finally it died down and then we were woken again to the street sweepers who started work at 05:20am.....we gave up at around half 6 of all hope of getting any sleep. Before setting of to the forest of dean we thought we'd crack on with the breakfast we'd pre ordered at £6 each. Well it was vile! The sausage, hash brown and mushrooms had been deep fat fried and were rock hard. The beans microwaved within an inch of thier life, and it took us a while to work out why the just cooked bacon tasted like kebab meat.....they must of just slapped it on the grill without washing it. The egg was in a pool of oil too. What a waste of £12!! It's not hard to make a half decent full engish, the 'chef' needs to buck up ideas to be honest as I wouldn't serve that breakfast to the dog!

The one good thing about our stay was the customer service recieved from the bar staff and manager. Lovely, friendly people and we couldn't fault them. Shame the dodgy chef and noise let them down.

ok......80 pounds for 2 nights .... didnt expect much.....but all was well really. We did request a room move when we first arrived because room 10 had no shower just a bath!.No problems for the friendly manager.Nice big rooms if slightly noisey but its above a pub what did one expect!.If we had paid more id proberly be a little more critical but the low cost reflects perfectly what u get.All in all a nice 2 night break and we would deffo come back here .

Room Tip: carefull with room 10 it has no shower
