“Everything else pales in comparison”
Reviewed June 13, 2010

After staying at Bryniau Golau I think I am never going to be satisfied with another B&B. This place is exceptional and absolutely great value for money. When it states 5 star it MEANS 5 star, Everything is perfect. The house itself is gorgeous and decorated beautifully and stylishly. The bedrooms are large and sitting in the bath overlooking the lake as the sun sets it truly special. Others have spoken about Katrina and Peter's hospitality and charm and I can only concur. Nothing is too much trouble. If you get a chance to eat in, do so. It is lovely food, friendly and relaxed. And if you want to eat in town, Katrina drives you in so that the restaurant can drive you home. What service.
I am writing this in another supposedly 5 star B&B and as I said before it pales in comparison.

On arrival we were greeted by Peter and later to Katrina who helped us in with our luggage and offered some refreshments. In our room, we were bought up some home made scones with cream and jam together with coffee they were just out of the oven and delicious. We had a good choice of what to eat at breakfast and this could take you through to the evening.

Our room was large but l believe not the largest, it had a queen size bed with a lovely soft quilt and pillows, that bed was just heaven for the three nights we were there. The bathroom was a good size and had one of those large free standing baths. It was smashing, simply lying in that bath and looking at Lake Bala below.

The location of the guest house is just right not too far from civalisation but far enough to be quiet and tranquil. The house has a lovely garden and to sit outside and enjoy the sun set.

The hospitality a stranger receives l believe is very important and Peter and Katrina displayed this very well. The house was clean and welcoming and the food lovely. To say anything anti would be a crime but all i think of are two things. Parking could be a bit tight if there was a house full and on the road. But, as their house is the only one on the road not a big problem. The second drawback is the Welsh weather.

We stayed here one night and it was absolutely wonderful! We were 6 people from the same family spending a couple of days in Wales (it was a kind of family ritual gathering) and we had the whole house for us. Katrina and Peter are the most lovely hosts and we felt immediately at ease at Bryniau Golau. We arrived there by car from London after a long and tiring trip. We were welcomed by the nice glooming flames of a fire in the fireplace of the sitting room, had a glass of wine while sinking in very confortable armchairs and then went to the dining room (we decided to have dinner at BG)looking out at the lake. My brother played on the fabulous grand piano (a Bechstein, the best of the best, he was over the moon!), then we had a delicious dinner cooked by Peter and Katrina (great great cooks) while enjoying the sunset over the Lake Bala. After this lovely evening, we went to our rooms which all have outstanding views on the lake and the montains: everything was perfect, the bathrooms were large and luxurious, the decor was superb, all rooms were tastefully decorated. And the bed were so comfortable that I slept divinely (although I am a total insomniac...). Breakfast in the dining room on the next sunny and bright morning was a bliss: we could have seat there for hours! Hearty and delicious breakfast with fresh products, gorgeous marmelade and fruit from the house... Bryniau Golau is the best B&B I have ever stayed in, not only because of the comfort of the rooms etc... but because of Katrina and Peter's warm welcoming and of a quite magical and special atmosphere that came from the calm beauty of the house and its surroundings, something that is very very rare. We will definitely be returning.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights last August and it was truly wonderful! The views over the lake are outstanding, the B&B itself is a little off the beaten track but great for a relaxing weekend away and only a short drive from Bala. When we arrived we were met with tea and home-made cakes which was much appreciated and a nice personal touch! We stayed in the Aran room, which can be a twin or a double. All of the rooms are beautiful and quite different, the Aran room does have the most amazing bath with a view of the lake - I can honestly say it was the most luxurious bath I've ever had! The breakfast was delicious and I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area!

This was our 2nd stay with Katrina & Peter this year, as we didn't conquer Snowdon the 1st time in March, a bit to cold to walk up mountains!
A fabulous house with outstanding views from all the bedrooms and the breakfast/dining room. Very comfortable with lovely rooms and luxury bathrooms. A real treat to come back to when you have been walking all day. Ideally placed for all of the main attractions of North Wales. We will definitley be returning.

Just stayed for 2 nights in this fantastic B&B in a really beautiful setting overlooking Lake Bala. Lovely warm greeting when we arrived and we were given a pot of tea and some delicious cake which we chose to eat out in the garden as the sun was shining! The room was a lovely size (think ours was the smallest and even that was plenty big enough!) and very clean and again both the bedroom and bathroom had great views over the lake.
The breakfasts were superb and what was great was you could pick your time between 8 - 9.30. The owners do a great job here and run their B&B in a very friendly manner.
Did a couple of great walks while we were there. The Precipice walk on Nannau estate near Dolgellau had stunning scenery but unfortunately for us was not long enough at about 3 miles but highly recommended. We then went up Cadair Idris instead of Snowdon which we usually do and again this was far more scenic and had stunning views and we were lucky with the weather so would recommend that too.
A great weekend in Wales in a fantastic B&B
