Last week during a weeks holiday in the area, we visited The Victoria Inn, Llanbedr. On a lovely sunny day it was a pleasure to have a meal and drinks sitting outside in the "beer garden". The food we had was not brilliant, but adequate and reasonably priced. I first came here some thirty-seven years ago and the Inn and its surroundings are as good as ever. A particularly nice, safe play area for the kids and the riverside location of the Inn is pretty special.

Probably one of the worst meals we've had out. We both had pork loin in cider and apple with vegetables (sign outside said home grown) we were offered chips or new potatoes, we opted for chips. When it arrived the pork was in a tasteless sauce, like a boil in the bag type and the veg were tinned peas . I complained and was told if I had ordered potatoes I would have got vegetables! I did get the price of my meal back. If I'm paying good money to eat out I do expect some effort involved. Be warned.

We come here every time we stay in a holiday cottage in Harlech. Its a very friendly pub with a great atmosphere. There is a great area for the kids to play and its situated along a beautiful river. There are waterfalls not to far from here. They are worth the 5 minute drive from the pub. Definitely worth a look!!

We recently visited Wales for the first time, despite having lived in the UK for 35 years! We stayed for 3 nights at the Victoria Inn and would very happily have stayed longer had time permitted. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a well modernised bathroom. They seem to have modernised the rooms recently, but have kept the charm and character of this lovely old building.
We LOVED the low ceilings and slightly sloping floors, reminded us of the age and history of the building.Breakfast was very good, lots of choices for freshly cooked hot meals served in the dining room overloooking the garden. AT night the bar was quite busy and we ate their for 2 of the nights we stayed. It's pub food so it's substantial and it hit the spot with a cold beer after a busy day of hiking. The village itself is small but very well located for the many tourist attractions like Harlech Castle, Portmeirion, tin and copper mines, waterfalls etc.......we certainly kept busy and would love to re-visit the area, so beautiful.........would definitley stay at the Victoria Inn again .Take the toll road from HArlech to Portmadoc, saves time and is quite fun to see the young guys in the toll booth handing out the tickets.Portmeirion is amazing and well worth a visit, even if you're not a Prisoner fan!

We decided to take a run out to Portmerion from Dolgellau....we found what we thought was a very pleasant place for lunch on the way. It looked the part and the menu looked reasonable so we tried it. We ordered at the bar as requested and was told that food would be HALF AN HOUR, which didn't bother us a bit as we were of course on holiday. However, a large table of ten sat next to us outside and another table of 4 next to them. We had been there approx 10mins before they arrived and WE had ordered COLD food. A Ploughmans and a Tuna Sandwich. To our amazement the table of ten and the table of four were delivered their HOT food before us!!! Not a problem but when we DARED to complain our food was brought to us by an arrogant young man who said he was the manager. He said that we had been "forgotten about" and that it was the waitresses fault!! When we said that we had waited longer than the table of ten and the table of four he snapped back saying AND I QUOTE "you were told 45 mins for your food and you've waited 37minutes" NO VISIBLE SIGN OF CONCERN AND NO APOLOGY!!!! He walked away leaving us absolutely astounded at his lack of concern and his arrogant and smug manner was utterly unacceptable. I would happily have asked for my money back and left the food, but my husband was hungry so we just ate and left. I had a very AVERAGE tuna sandwich served with soggy vegetable crisps. My husbands ploughmans was served with plain sliced bread and NOT the crusty granary bread promised, the coleslaw WAS NOT home made, the cheese was a tasteless cheddar, it was all VERY AVERAGE!! It was NOT what we expected, and let the hotel down very badly!! The young man who posed as the manager needs a serious lesson in customer service, civility and humility!!! He was Arrogant, smug, surly, and extremely unhelpful.

I had hoped that if we visited the area again, we would have stayed there as it looked lovely.....suffice to say we won't be setting foot in the place again.

ISN'T IT A GREAT SHAME THAT ONE MEMBER OF STAFF CAN RUIN WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOVELY LUNCHTIME EXPERIENCE.
ONE WONDERS WHY THIS YOUNG MAN IS IN A CUSTOMER SERVICE OCCUPATION AS HE CLEARLY WOULD BE MORE SUITED TO CLEANING TOILETS WHERE HIS SURLY SMUG AND ARROGANT MANNER WOULD GO TOTALLY UNNOTICED!!!!
I'm sure in reality it's probably a nice hotel, the reviews would suggest that. However, one young man's ignorant and immature reaction to a perfectly valid complaint soured our lunch and has left us with a bad memory. We won't return there obviously.

I booked to stay at The Victoria Inn after seeing pictures of Shell Island on the VisitWales website and Llanbedr seemed to be the nearest town to stay without actually camping on the island.
We arrived and had to go to the bar to find someone who could check us in and there is no seperate reception area. A nice lady showed us to our room (Room 1) which was up the stairs and into the accommodation area. A word of warning for any ladies or gentlemen above 5'8" tall....the ceilings and doorways are very low which I know is typical in old buildings but my poor boyfriend who is 6'3" had quite a hard time bending down all the time and his head actually touched the ceiling in our bedroom!
The bedroom was very spacious, clean and very nicely decorated however we did get a slight feeling of sea sickness as the floors are very wonky and you appear to be on a constant slope...again this is due to the age of the building and I expect many people would say that this adds to the character.
The bar downstairs is very cosy and a nice place to sit and enjoy a quiet drink. We did not eat at the pub so I cannot review what the food is like.
Llanbedr itself is a very small village however the road outside the hotel is very busy with lots of lorrys going past which can be quite noisy.
We parked for free in the pub car park opposite and visited Shell Island and the Nantcol Waterfalls which were beautiful, and I could imagine it being even more so in the Summer months.
we also visited Harlech which is about a 20 min drive away and home of Harlech castle which was lovely. Overall our stay was very enjoyable but I do think that £80 a night for a double room is quite expensive, I think £50-£60 would be a better price for this hotel.
