My girlfriend and I spent the last weekend of May at Shell Island with three friends and we all had a great time. The campsite is lovely and spacious so you can choose whether you want to camp near the sea, which we did, or further inland. What I particularly liked about Shell Island was that there was enough room for everyone to have a good amount of space between their pitch and the next, there was no cramming in shoulder to shoulder with other campers.
The campsite is well appointed with regular ablution stations, a nice seating area for the bar/cafe/restaurant and you're never too far from the beach, which we took full advantage of. A word of caution though, it can get pretty windy at night so make sure your tent is as securely pitched as possible, I didn't get much sleep the first night because my friend's tent flap was going a mile a minute in the wind.
If you're into camping chances are you already know what a gem Shell Island is, if you don't then find out, I doubt you'll be sorry.
