We absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage was beautiful with a large kitchen, dining room and garden so perfect for a holiday away with family and friends. The location was stunning with beautiful walks on your doorstep and we took our dog with us (as it is a dog friendly cottage) and she couldn't have been happier. The weather was great so we made good use of the bbq area. It is a good size with a large wooden table and chairs so great for accommodating large groups. It was wonderful eating outside with a clear view of all the stars in the peaceful countryside. Overall, it was the perfect cottage and location and we couldn't have been happier... we also fell in love with Wales and will be returning.
We stayed at Gilfachwydd Farmhouse Retreat for 4 nights in April upon arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine and some lovely chocolate chip shortbread. The house was nice and warm and it took only a few minutes to find the requiste items to make everyone a cuppa after our travels - the kitchen is fab and full of interesting items.
The dining area is massive and has plenty of room although the table only has six chairs and despite booking for seven persons we could not find the fold up chairs mentioned in the details so we had to use the piano stool as the seventh chair, not too much of a pain but you wouldn't want to sit up the table for too long as it's not padded.
The Convseratory area is great and was used all through out our stay.
The Living room is ok and has a decent TV (if you need one) but the sofa and armchairs are looking a little tired and were a bit too low for our more elderly guests.
The bedrooms are good but again let down by the mattresses being a little tired and in need of replacing, the biggest let down was the towels which although had been washed had some dubious stains which meant we didn't use half of them.
Don't be put off but the above as i am being brutally honest, the house overall is very good and with a bit of extra care with the laundry, new sofa's and maybe new mattress or some decent toppers could be excellent. It is certainly in an amazing part of the country and is right on the doorstep of some great walking area's. I would go back again if the above were resolved and would recommend it to friends.
If you go into the local town do go to Robert's the tea shop - the cakes are amazing.
The house is comfortable and well equipped with a great conservatory, garden and views. A little way out in the country, so there is plenty of peace and quiet. Dolgellau is walkable from the house for the more able as it's uphill all the way back! Ideally located for touring the area, a car is essential. The kitchen is well equipped (although the dishwasher didn't work on our visit) and the lounge and bedrooms are comfortable. We had issues with the conservatory doors and dishwasher but the agents are helpful and efficient. If your looking for a good touring base wit a bit of peace and quiet then this is ideal.
Just the feel of this cottage seems to stimulate you for exploring this amazing part of Wales. As a Welshman I can't believe that in my 67 years I have overlooked spending time in this area. I shall certainly be back ...and soon !
The cottage is very well equipped and the large dining room ,the lounge and the conservatory are all large enough to accommodate the family for meals, get togethers and family games etc.
The large farmhouse kitchen has everything you need and the bathrooms and bedrooms are warm, well equipped and comfortable.
The local people are very friendly and the butchers and other food shops sell some superb produce.
