My husband and I paid £65 for a double room here for a night in early August 2005, which is probably about right. I think the place must have been quite grand at one point but now seems to specialise in coach parties (see their web-site). There were lots of couples having a good old dance when we were there and clearly enjoying themselves.
Our room was on the top floor and was a good size with a pleasant window area. But both the room and bathroom needed a lot of money spending on them, especially the bathroom which only had a hand shower, a wobbly toilet seat and no door-lock. Both rooms were clean though and the beds were comfy.
The staff were all great - no problems there. I do wonder though whether the lift was a converted dumb waiter - it was certainly small enough. The hot buffet breakfast was probably fine for the coach party but the fried eggs were pretty congealed when we got there.
All in all for the price - not too bad. I'd certainly rather stay somewhere like this with character than a Travelodge or similar.
