We spent three nights here, and will happily return again. Julian and Andy were friendly and welcoming, and the house was really comfortable. We stayed in the Princess Margaret Suite, which was light and roomy and had a wonderful bathroom. The duvet was a touch too warm for us to sleep really well, but the bed was otherwise very comfortable. Breakfasts were wonderful -- do try the home made granola and fruit salad as well as the full Welsh and the superb scrambled eggs. The dinner menu was limited and doesn't change often, but the food is well prepared -- I particularly recommend the slow-cooked lamb shank, and the slow-cooked beef, as well as the Welsh cheese board. If you're staying more than a couple of nights, you'll probably want to take advantage of the list of recommended local restaurants.
One thing it's also worth mentioning -- the free wifi gave excellent performance, far better than I had expected in rural Wales.

We were delighted to find Plas Dinas for our walking holiday in Snowdonia as we like a touch of luxury at the end of a long day. Our hosts, Andy and Julian, were friendly and helpful but never intrusive and it was a bonus to discover that the house has an interesting history. We stayed for five nights in South Room (Deluxe) and found it and the bathroom perfect for our needs. There were some nice touches such as home made shortbread, chocolates on arrival and plenty of Molton Brown. It was particularly nice to relax in the beautiful drawing room before dinner, glass of wine in hand. Breakfasts were scrumptious as were the dinners which we sampled on three nights and the service was first rate. We will be coming back here as it is very much 'our kind of place' - long may it continue!

I'm sure this hotel is lovely but if you have a dog larger than a spaniel don't bother as they have an unwritten size rule when it comes to dogs. There's also limited rooms available for pets so ring ahead before you book.

I had to cancel our booking through Expedia as luckily one of the staff rang ahead to confirm the finer details of our stay which was a nice touch, luckily I mentioned my dogs but I feel it should be available information on their, and their partners, websites.

Hi Russell

Thanks for your comments. I’m sorry we were unable to accept your booking as you had two large Bernese Mountain dogs. On our own website, our dog policy is clearly displayed on the booking screens and in the room descriptions.

The comfort of all our guests is important to us. The house and rooms are generally only suitable for smaller dogs up to Spaniel size, so we don’t feel large dogs (particularly two of them) should be sharing the small double room you booked as there’s not physically enough room. To help those with allergies book with confidence, only two of our rooms are designated for dogs. As we were busy on the dates you had booked, even if you had tiny dogs, we would still not have been able to take your booking as the dog friendly rooms were already taken.

On the Expedia website through which you booked, we are only able to state if we are pet friendly or not. Following the confusion with your booking, we have removed this option. We find that most guests who wish to bring a dog, check with us first.

We are very dog friendly (as can be seen from some of our recent reviews) and have a little dog ourselves (Patsy the Miniature Schnauzer). We charge £10 per dog per night in the larger Buckley & South bedrooms and they are welcomed with a “Doggie Pack”. They are also able to enjoy the Drawing Room, the log fire, and 15 acres of grounds. There is a lovely beach locally which is ideal for dog walks.

We hope you were able to find alternate accommodation locally.

Kind regards.

Andy, Julian & Patsy.

I stayed at Plas Dinas for three nights for a friend's wedding in August/ September 2012, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really didn't expect such a gem in this area and would definitely recommend it.

I had originally tried to book online but had some problems with the website - however a quick phone call to Andy & Julian got me booked in to the Mount Room. In advance of my stay I booked dinner for the first night and Andy also helped me to find a massage therapist as a treat during my break. The thoughtfulness of the hosts and their dedication to the property and service is easy to see and makes a real difference.

Plas Dinas is easy to find, just off the A487, a very scenic route through North Wales, and is clearly signed from the road. The long driveway has some lovely planting, I was particularly impressed with the colourful hydrangeas! Checking in was very easy and I was invited to take a drink in the drawing room prior to dinner (worth it!).

I can't give much indication of what the other rooms are like, but mine (Mount) was lovely. Very spacious and nicely furnished with modern technology. The bed was huge and a small sofa is provided also. Pretty fireplace, and lovely sash windows. The bedroom looks over the gardens and car park (although I never heard a peep) and the well equipped bathroom has views of the gardens and straits. Quick note on the shower - took a couple of minutes for the pump and heat to kick in but once they did I really appreciated the 'rainforest' style shower, it was very refreshing. The thing that really impressed me was the amount of care that had gone in to the room - it was very well thought out and little touches such as a hot water bottle and electric fan made the stay feel really special. Nice bed linen and a plethora of pillows, and spotless bathroom.

Food was fantastic, Andy is incredibly attentive and dining here was a real treat. For dinner I had goats cheese starter, beef main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, the beef seemed to melt in the mouth. For breakfast there was a choice of cereal, fruits, yoghurt and cooked - the sausages in particular were delicious.

I didn't have time to explore the gardens but they looked like they would be worth some time too. Plas Dinas is also well placed to explore the local towns, villages and coastline. I travelled to Caernarfon, Waunfawr, Bangor, Tal y Bont, Pistyll, Llandudno and Porthmadog very easily.

All in all, having lived in the area previously, I was very surprised to have found such an exceptional venue to stay, with incredible attention to detail, and I hope that I'll be back again soon.

Room Tip: There is one room on the ground floor for guests who don't want to climb the stairs.

From Alan and Margaret Scott and Hamish -
Plas Dinas is set in beautiful grounds and enjoys wonderful scenery; From the moment you arrive at Plas Dinas you will discover elegance and sophistication entwined with a wonderful welcome from Andy and Julian. Their committment to quality and service is first class, and they are wonderful hosts. The breakfasts and evening meals are delicious and are served quickly and efficiently. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and enjoyed views over the
beautiful gardens, and our stay was more pleasureable due to the fact, our dog Hamish
was able to stay with us. Thanks again Andy and Julian. - love to Patsy.

Plas Dinas is a wonderful secret. The sort of place you glow about, but selfishly prefer to keep for yourself!!
However(!!) we had a truly excellent stay with Andy and Julian in their country house.
It's like stepping back into an age of refinement and gentle pleasures.
Sitting in the elegant drawing room enjoying pre-dinner drinks and chatting to convivial fellow-guests.
Beautiful breakfasts followed by sunny and windy visits round stunning countryside under the towering presence of Snowdon.
Thankyou for going that "extra mile" and making our holiday faultless.
Daniel and Diane

Room Tip: We chose South room. It is large and quiet.

Plas Dinas offered us the ideal location to relax away from our busy lives and be looked after by Andy & Julian, always there when we needed anything and made us feel part of the friendly atmosphere. The four nights we spent at Plas Dinas flew by and we had just enough time to take in everything we needed to do, with a busy sightseeing schedule ahead each day the breakfast set us up with plenty of energy. We have already started planning our next visit and hope to take some friends with us so they can share our experience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Beautiful things fill Lord Snowdon’s historic family home, Marco's cooking hits the spot and the ten, en-suite bedrooms offer wifi and luxurious Molton Brown amenities. This is the family home of Lord Snowdon. It dates to the 1600s and stands in 15 acres with an avenue of oak that sweeps you up to the house. Princess Margaret stayed often and much of what fills the house belongs to the family: stunning chandeliers, oils by the score, gilt-framed mirrors – an Aladdin's cave of beautiful things. There's a baby grand piano in the drawing room, where you find smart wood floors, an honesty bar and a fire that roars, but potter about the house and find masses of memorabilia framed on the walls (make sure you visit the private dining room). Bedrooms are quite something, the past mixing gracefully with modern design. Nothing is left to chance, a constant programme of refurbishment sees to that. You get four-posters, classic colours, sumptuous fabrics, a sofa if there's room. Bathrooms are excellent, some with showers, others with free-standing baths. ... more   less
